Cabbage Key is a 100 acre island located five miles off of Pine Island, FL in the Pine Island Sound. The Inn, built in the 1940's by the family of Mary Roberts Rinehart, now houses our famous Restaurant & Dollar Bill Bar and 6 guest rooms. The rooms in the Inn are all different with old Florida charm - they do not have TVs, phones, or refrigerators. We have 8 cottages on the island, ranging from a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage to 3 bedroom/3 bath waterfront units. All cottages have refrigerators, televisions (no cable) and coffee makers, some units have full kitchens. Our restaurant is open seven days a week and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. Reservations are accepted for dinner only. Our hours of operation for our restaurant are listed on our website within our "Dining" section, as well as our full menus for each meal. If you want to relax on a beach...we do not have one here. But, Cayo Costa is a close kayak or boat ride away. This is a great retreat to discover "Old Florida", grab a burger for lunch, relax with a book, & watch the boats go by.
Always a favorite place to go each winter when we're in the Ft. Myers area. It's a unique experience with thousands of signed dollar bills hanging all over the ceiling and walls which guests have posted. Typically most people including myself go there fro lunch. Last night went there for the first time for dinner which is a completely different menu. Pleasantly surprised with their offering on the dinner menu. Tripletail was the fish of the day. Super delicious as was the sugared carrots which we served crisp and tasty. Our server, Samantha, was a pleasure to work with. Very conscientious, returning to the table multiple times asking if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Restaurant is reported to be the place where Jimmy Buffett wrote the the song "Cheeseburger In Paradise". Many eat burgers when they come to Cabbage Key for that reason. The burgers are very good. It's said that there are over 70,000 bills hanging on the walls which the owners donate a portion of them every year to charities. There are boats from various parts of FL which take people to the island to eat very day.

We are a locally owned and family operated retail seafood market that specializes in fresh, local, wild caught, Florida seafood. At Island Seafood Market we offer our customers the freshest fish and seafood available in our clean, boutique style market. In addition, we carry a variety of specialty spices, homemade sauces, homemade dips and products to compliment your seafood. If you ever want something that we don't have in stock, just let us know and we can make it happen. In most cases, we can get it to you the next day.
We have gone to lunch here and both times the sandwiches have been very good. First time we got the grouper sandwich and it was cooked perfectly and we agreed it was our favorite grouper sandwich so far.
Recently, we tried the mangrove snapper sandwich and it was delicious. They put lettuce, tomato and onion on top and even the bun is good. The sandwich comes with a bag of chips, side of tartar sauce and a small container of coleslaw (that has a nice citrus vinegar dressing).
The food takes a while but if you sit outside on the picnic table (there are two tables) you can watch the birds or fishing boats go by. There are a few tables inside (it is a small place) and one or two tables outside by the entrance.
Sandwiches are approximately $15 and the quality is worth it. Can't wait to go back and try something else. You can also buy fresh fish to go, seafood items out of the glass cases or seasonings that are on the shelves.
If coming from Cape Coral onto Pine Island, the restaurant will be on the right side, immediately before you get to the drawbridge. The parking lot is small (similar case for many places on Pine Island Rd).

This was our first but not our last time visiting here. I ice cream is homemade and excellent. The owner was serving us that day and he was very informative about the ice cream and just a pleasant gentleman to talk too. The ice cream store is attached to a very nice and unique gift shop. There were tables and chairs inside that we sat at and enjoyed the ice cream, gift shop offerings and nice environment. Will be hard to drive past this place ever again.

Dirty grimy filthy disgusting. All of the equipment (soda machines, iced tea dispensers, ice cream machine, countertops, tables, floors) had a layer of sticky dirt covering them. Floors were littered and dirty, employees were not friendly toward customers, they simply took orders, took money, made change and delivered food....very mechanically. Trash cans outside were caked with dirt, trash bins inside were full to the top. The strawberry blizzard was carelessly overfilled and handed to me running down the side of the cup and the strawberries tasted like they were fermenting. I was so happy at the idea of finding a Dairy Queen out in the middle of nowhere, but this place is a dump. The owners should be ashamed. Trip Advisor lists this place as Lee Florida, but it is in St James City / Bokeelia / Pine Island Florida. (Lee County).
After being here and feeling grossed out, I looked them up online and found that they had numerous Board of Health issues in the past.

Picked up brisket to go......absolutely awesome. Thin sliced, great smoke flavor, and horseradish sauce is to kill for. Their gumbo is excellent as well as the smoked wings. Keep up the good work!Thank you for the kind review. So glad to hear you enjoyed everything, we promise to keep up the good work.

We are usually go have the burgers, Beans, Mami, Schimpfte - Crabs at Cabbage key. And there are great!! they still are great.
But the service was terrible! they must be overwhelmed by the visitors..and they don't want to have more visitors.... they treat you so bad!
And on the second visit the same week, the Pie was burned...... if it was for free - I wouldn't have had a problem. But if I have to pay.....I want a god piece. Unfortunately it was on the take away and we noticed that at home....
We'll have to think about it twice now if we really want to spend our time at a place with those values.

Being a full time island resident I am embarrassed to admit this was my first visit to EPR. Certainly my loss.
Tuesday dinner with a friend included HOUSE MADE sausage and the roast chicken pot pie. The sausage platter included two long and hefty “links” of densely meaty filling with no noted filler and a perfect touch of heat. The black beans were cooked perfectly.
Chicken pot pie was large, full of tasty chicken with a great fluffy crust.
The homemade sangria was very refreshing.
Barbara, our server, was perfect in every way.

The service was quick. The Hogfish was very good. Fried Grouper Basket was very good. It has a good view of harbor. Quaint little restaurant. Outside seating.

We did not have a reservation but showed up as a large party was wrapping up. The host told us to come back in 15 minutes, so we walked the grounds and upon return got a delightful table in the screened in outdoor area. The menu had lots of great choices and the wait staff was excellent. I would recommend it as a great meal on Pine Island.

This is a solid choice. The lunch menu is simple and limited. The ingredients are fresh and are high quality. The cooking is excellent.
I've lived in Florida for 25 years and have been to near every gastro pub or steak house looking for a good burger. I've found a few but the Pink Elephant's is a step above the rest. Simple, excellent meat, order it about any way you want, the bun fits the burger, medium rare to perfection, excellent fries, SERVED HOT. Pickles are way too brined, be warned.
Baby iceberg superb. It should be the definition of a wedge salad.
Tuna tartare was excellent. The chef knows what he's doing. We looked around at other tables first to judge cleanliness and freshness. Passed that test as did the tartare.
Fish taco's. Not so great. Too many restaurants try to do too much with this dish. The Pink Elephant is one of them.
Service is superb. Polite, friendly, inconspicuous yet attentive, quick to respond.
I've been to Boca Grande several times but this is the first time I've eaten at the Pink Elephant. For lunch, the best in town.
