wonderful tex mex dishes, burgers and ambiance! It's an old building with lots of charm. We were there on a Sunday around noon -- fun!
First let me tell you I am from El Paso, TX ~ the land of EXTREMELY good Mexican Food. that being said my standards on my reviews are extremely high for Mexican Restaurants. I stopped in at Alejandras Mexican & American Restaurant in Bellinger for some lunch. I ordered the Dos Enchiladas Plate and asked that both enchiladas were made with chicken. When the plate came I was surprised to see the enchiladas covered with melted Velveeta cheese, big no no....where was the Mexican Asadero cheese?? Looking beyond that I began to eat my enchiladas. The chicken was so finely shredded it seemed more like chicken "sawdust" with no flavor. The beans and rice were flavored better than the enchiladas. The chips were very thin, the salsa very mild! This meal did not live up to the recommendation given by the locals.

I had one of the best link sausage Kolaches I have ever had. I also bought a very large cinnamon roll that was delicious. I plan on stopping here the next time I am in Ballinger if they are open. They are just a block to the west of the Executive Inn. If you don't care for a continental breakfast, this is the place to. Its cheap and good. I highly recommend it.

Traveling from Lubbock to San Antonio, lunch time found us in Ballinger. A quick check to Trip Advisor showed several places to eat and the building on the square with Sandwich shop on the side was not on the list. One of the other restaurants on the list was within sight so we pulled into a parking spot and headed the half block to the main street. As we approached the store on the corner three ladies came out chatting. My wife asked them where we could find a good place in town to eat they pointed to the building and said in unison, "In here."
We walked in the back door into the smaller of two dining rooms in the brick building restored to its original character with brick walls, dark woodwork and high tin adorned ceilings. Out booth was wide and spacious the waitress responded to us when we walked in and was over to take our drink order within a minute.
The daily special was on a chalk board by the door for ground steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. (I ordered that) and a bowl of cheesy broccoli soup. My wife ordered Half sandwich (Jalapenio Pimento cheese) and Texas Chili. We were to find out that we ordered a lot of food.
It's hard for me to judge portion sizes but the hamburger was generous. It was covered with brown gravey with half a cup of potatoes and half a cup of italian style green beans. The taste is classic Texas.a bit heavy on the salt for my taste but still good. I am not a big fan of the italian style bean but these has been simmering in something other than just water and had a very nice texture and taste.
My wife's sandwich was wonderfully flavored but could have used twice as much cheese spread. The chili was a mildly flavored meat stew. When asked for additional jalapeño peppers and onions they were quickly and graciously provided.
I live in southern Colorado so unadorned Texas food tends to be a bit flat to me. So I have two rating for this delightful bit of Texas culture. 4 stars on the Texas food and ambience scale which is what I put on this review. 3 stars on my northern, yankee, hooked on peppers scale which I admit is unfair to the local population who likes their food unadulterated. Either way the Main Street Soda Fountain is a delightful place to have lunch with taste and style.

Must place to stop on travel. The buffet had Chicken, Steak Fingers, Squash, Home Mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, Cabbage, Corn, Green Beans, you also get rolls and dessert. Rustic looking wood walls.

No, this isn't a hamburger joint nor does it serve standard country restaurant fare. It does have hamburger steak, chicken fried steak etc. but they truly excel with their lunch specials. Today's special was pork roast or chicken fried steak, both with gravy. Both came with celery soup, steamed broccoli and rice prima verde. All were very good to delicious. The lunch price of $10 included the soup, drink, and tax. The restaurant is very clean and the waitstaff provided very friendly and excellent service. We will definitely return.

I visited here whilst passing Ballinger on a storm chase and I want to visit if I get the chance again.
The building is a converted cinema - which still has a large projector screen. The seats all form tables and the hard walls make for some amazing acoustics.
Staff are very attentive and interested in their guests, making us feel immediately at ease. The menu is BBQ based - with the pulled pork plate being more than what I could ever have dreamt of. Prices are reasonable, meaning we had more money to pay a large (and well deserved) tip for the staff.
If I am in the area again, I will certainly return! Keep up the amazing work!

We were very pleased with our lunch at Gonzalez Restaurant. I ordered the Large Burrito which was $8.75. My wife decided to go with the Taco Salad which was $9.25. The food was delivered to our table in about 10 minutes. Both meals were very large and very good. There were lots of hamburger in the huge burrito & the also the taco salad. The meat seasoning was mild but just right for us. When I ordered the burrito, the waitress explained the salsa was very "HOT" and offered that a more mild cheese sauce could be spread over the burrito.
The meals were soooo large, we boxed up nearly half of the food for another day. Gonzalez Restaurant has a casual, relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is located on the corner at the junction of Highways 67 & 83. Parking is along the street next to the restaurant.

This is a popular place; in addition, it has a drive-in window where orders may be placed, and people going to work place large orders, which may slow the delivery of service within the restaurant. Having said that, if time is not a significant factor, this place is great for breakfasts. The migas were excellent and thew hot sauce - both read and green - are outstanding. I'd return to this restaurant.

I arrived in Ballinger late and found very little open. The Pizza Hut keeps late hours and it fit right into my schedule. I had a personal pizza and the salad bar. The salad bar may be small but the ingredients were fresh and the salad bar clean. I was quite pleased with my meal. The overall restaurant was clean and the server very friendly to this late night guest.

Family-owned Chinese Restaurant on main drag in Ballinger. Nice selection of entrees and a daily lunch special with nice selection of entrees, fried rice and egg roll. Walk-up counter for ordering with a sizable dining room for eat-in. Very clean, efficient with quick service for made to order food. Excellent value for very good food.
