After being on the road for an hour myself and my partner decided to stop here for tea. We ordered nachos to start and what came out was a bowl of doritos with a low quality cheese melted on it. No sour cream, no salsa, no guacamole. Instead we was given bbq sauce and sweet chilli, I know I'm from the city but that isnt nachos. £5 for crisps and cheese. We asked for any other sauces and the waitress wasnt the most pleasant she didnt even come over to the table to address us instead she stood at the kitchen door and said no only mayo. I'm ok for mayo and crisps. Safe to say we didnt eat it and when other waitress came over to take the plate which was full she didnt ask if the food was ok. Then the mains came out which was steak pie mash and veg and a chicken and leek pie which was a special. I've never seen a pie that dry in my life clearly been sat there all day and reheated. Not a drop of gravy inside. Mash was lumpy and our veg was spouts and a few peas. They also went back, the waitresses didnt even seem bothered not an ounce of customer service between them. With the crisp starter and dry pie main we asked for the bill and sent the food back. Only to be told by the owner the pie wasnt dry when he didnt even see it.another example of bad customer service.

We have heard good things about this pub/restaurant, especially their Wednesday steak night. We were not disappointed. We were greeted and seated by a very pleasant young lady and our drinks arrived within minutes, and our food order taken. We both had ribeye steak and stilton sauce, which were excellent. These were accompanied with the usual trimmings, but we were especially pleased with the big dish of home made chips. At less than £30 for us both, we highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

My mum and I went for lunch whilst on holiday in the northern lakes, after seeing good reviews on TA. I had the Barnsley chop, which was enormous, beautifully cooked and tasty. Accompanied by home made chips which were delicious. Mum had the 2 course lunch special. Cod in breadcrumbs again with those lovely chips and then a superb knickerbocker glory. With a drink each £30. Great value I can thoroughly recommend. Finally a mention must be made about the friendly landlady. Like what it seems everyone in this part of the country is, she was chatty and friendly and excellent host as well as cook. Thank you to the Bird in the hand for a lovely lunch. Keep doing what youâre doing because you do it v v v well

We stumbled upon this pub while trying to find a lunch on Fatherâs Day and Iâm so pleased we did after having 80% of my stomach removed 5 weeks ago I can not eat very much but the staff were more then happy for me to have a starter as my main meal and the roast dinner that came out for my husband and sister looked fabulous. They also said their meals were delicious. We will be returning again very soon

A gem of a restaurant, loved by locals and visitors to the area â at least it is by those lucky enough to be told about it! Liz & Tony Harrison have been running Ye Olde Greyhound for over 20 years. The delicious home-cooked food is prepared by Liz and he
We really enjoyed this place. The food was delicious, good steaks, specials board, fish dishes. All very simple, service was delightful. Modern decor and spotlessly clean pub. Still retains its old world charm though. No dedicated parking, so that can be a problem, but don't let it put you off. All in all a pleasant visit.

A 17th century inn serving excellent home cooked food, cask ales and a large choice of wines and gins. We have a real fire to welcome you on a cold winter night, and outdoor eating is available in the summer months with views of Skiddaw. (Weather permitti
We hadn't booked, but we were made to feel welcome. The local ale was delicious, as were both of our main course dishes. There was a very tempting choice of dessert; I recommend the pavlova! Service was good, and the surroundings were pleasant. Lovely evening.

Joiners arms situated in Newton Arlosh reopened in July 2016 with hosts Chris and Ali Robinson. The joiners arms is a traditional country pub that serves a selection of freshly cooked home-made meals. We also have a small portion menu for children and tho

Come here to re live the traditional pub atmosphere which is gradually becoming a thing of the past with all the new trendy wine bars. Good food and friendly first class service. If you like real ale it is kept very well, the old Speckled Hen was my choice an excellent one at that. Being a Camra member for many years I know a lot about beer. Go and visit this lovely pub and enjoy a hearty meal and a drink maybe a chat to the bar staff or the locals they are very friendly.Thank you for your kind words about my pub we look forward to seeing you again.Mark
