Found this pub on the way home having left the motorway. Friendly staff, good beer, and the pie was a revelation! The curry wasn’t as good but we’ve marked this as a place to revisit.

Great to see Hilderstone has its village pub back, long may it remain.Good selection of excellent quality well priced beers available plus an interesting range of "home made" vodkas. No pretentions, this is an unashamed drinkers pub, made for socialising whilst putting heart back into the community. Diners and their entourage will need to venture elsewhere.

The Duke Of York

Time to visit the Duke of York following their refurbishment earlier this year with our friends from Stafford. The main lounge has been updated and very nicely decorated. Our table was booked 'on-line" which was useful and all reserved when we arrived. They have a nice choice of menu from which we choose a main course and dessert. As on previous occasions, the quality of food and service was truly excellent.

Visited on recommendation for an evening meal. Easy to find, adequate parking, place has quite a nice atmosphere, find your own table and order at the bar.Reasonable range of options on the menu if a little on the expensive side. Waitress service was quite good although I agree with a previous reviewer who said it wasn't easy to spot who the waitresses were as they were no uniforms or aprons. Food very disappointing, wild mushrooms on toast had little or no flavour, steak and ale pie was packed with tender meat but the only flavour was rosemary and the pastry was raw in parts. Probably won't be going again.

Roo's Cocktail Bar & Grill

Reviewed By sasha1672

We have been to Roo's for a meal twice in the last two months with two different sets of friends. The food was so good on the first occasion that we decided to return. I even had the same dish of halloumi Greek skewer salad with triple cooked chips which was extremely tasty on both occasions. Everyone enjoyed their meals in fact. However, it was fortunate that the only table with proper chairs (as opposed to high chairs) was available as my friend is unable to sit on a high chair. On both occasions, we were not offered anuly starters and on the second occasion, we were given the dessert menu and then when our order was taken, we were told that the kitchen had closed! The worst thing, however, is the noise in the place once it gets busy. It's not conjusive to a relaxing and pleasant meal with friends. It seems to me that the main priority of the place is serving alcohol which is a great shame as the food is of a good standard.

Visited having read good TA reviews and we weren't disappointed. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, great range of really fresh tasting good ales in the right glasses. Reasonable prices, and to make it even better, we won a pint by balancing a 20p on a lemon! The decor is interesting with loads of photos. We visited on quiz night, so it was busy, unfortunately had to leave before the quiz started.Wish we had found this pub before, but we will definitely return.

We went to the Wheatsheaf recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and special. The landlord even bought us our first drink to celebrate! Lovely decor, ambience, very chilled The food was delicious; hubby had bacon and black pudding stack for starters which he said was a meal on its own! Followed by Tina steak and roast veg. I can recommend the calendar starter and had salmon salad for main. Good size portions, no way could we eat pudding. We will definitely be returning, this time to try out the tapas.

We've dined at the Wayfarer on a number of occasions but especially like visiting when it's a special occasion. Visited Saturday 19th October for pre birthday lunch with family members celebrating my sister's birthday. As always we weren't disappointed, we all four ordered a different main course and we were all well pleased with our meals. Great menu choice, extremely well presented, very professional attentive staff and nothing seemed too much trouble fo⁶ r them. We had the sharing sweet, which is apparently meant for two people, three shared it (fourth member doesnt do sweets) and we couldn't eat it all. I'd definitely recommend the sharing sweet, naughty but nice! I'd taken a birthday cake for my sister, which staff happily carried out to the table, they'd stuck the candles onto the cake and all the staff members who came to the table sang Happy birthday as they brought the cake to the table, which was a lovely touch. However, we were all far too full to eat the birthday cake. Nice venue, lovely food, great choice, friendly yet very professional staff definitely worth a visit. Might be a little more expensive than say a typical pub lunch but definitely worth paying that little extra.
