We stayed here a few years ago and made a point of going back, the welcome was so friendly. There is a real family-run feel to this place. The rooms were really comfortable and the food was excellent and surprisingly modestly priced.. Definitely going back.

Deciding late the evening before to have a night away on Exmoor, we found this delightful inn on Hotels.com. A friendly welcome, clean room and a reserved table should we require an evening meal (we did, and enjoyed a vegetable korma and beef lasagna, shared a pudding.) Although on a road which was busy in the daytime, there was hardly any traffic at night - we had a good night's sleep and we heard no noise from the pub at all. Breakfast was fine, a better selection of cereals would have been welcome (like weetabix, shreddies or similar). I wouldn't say that the pub caters particularly well for vegetarians, but there was a choice of two veggie mains in the evening menu and it is possible to mix and match the breakfast to suit.

Loved the carvery so much we visited it twice - as they do a carvery on Wednesday as well as Sunday. Both times we were given wonderful food, beautifully cooked. One of the best things is that you get decent portions of meat here, rather than the scratchings at some other carveries! The gravy is amazing too, along with a good selection of veggies. The best carvery we've tasted in the area at a reasonable price.

Was very quiet when a small group of us ate in the restaurant. Felt it lacked atmosphere, food was nice but would not go againThank you for comments.I'm slightly confused as we don't open the restaurant any more, only for functions so not sure you have the right place. Our bar has plenty of atmosphere with a good mix of locals and tourists alike. Glad you enjoyed the food which is all freshly cooked and prepared in our kitchen with a good choice of dishes on the menu.Best wishesSara

Historic Harbour side Pub Inn & Hotel. A landmark building with its history of hospitality going back over 100 years. Our atmospheric restaurant and pub food experience will be very much 'River Cottage' style with Seafood, Fresh Fish, Local Farm Produce,
We ate in the restaurant section of this place and it was amazing. The room was lovely and the service was spot on. There was a lot of choice in the menu and some additional specials. We had some pheasant and venison for the main course and both were absolutely stunning. Desserts were good and we found a lovely portugese red wine in the list. A great place that i would love to return to.

A traditional Exmoor Inn. Great beer, friendly staff, wholesome food, good portions, good service and reasonable prices - what's not to like?We had lunch and dinner here and both were highly enjoyable. We even experienced a little of the local culture as part of an extended 'wake' after the funeral of a well respected local, which all added to the colour!A ploughmans and a pint on the tables across the lane overlooking the babbling river in the sunshine is hard to beat...long may it stay this way.

Popped in on my own with the dog. Staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Food was just what I needed after a long walk.

I always like to start reviews positively so I will. The food was very tasty. However it. was utterly ruined by very high noise levels (I know it was a Friday night)Firstly may I start with thanking you for your positive comment on our food. Now to score us down on customer's talking I think is a little unfair. We do not have loud music - a token radio station is heard in the background. We do not have a juke box - the only sound you will hear is good old fashioned conversation and for that I will not apologise for. If however someone was using offensive language, my staff would obviously deal with but for general chit chat...â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦..I am not sure where you sat and to which Friday you visited, I am assuming within the last two weeks. On the 11th October we held our monthly quiz night which is advertised and brings in a lot of trade as money won is donated to charity and we have raised thousands of pounds over the last 13 years. If it was the Friday just gone, 18th then it was just a busier service with a few larger tables. If you were sat in the bar area, you could have asked to be moved to the restaurant area where there is more space, the decision would have been yours to make as we were not aware with an issue with your table.Maybe you will visit again, you have stated in a previous review for another restaurant, that it maybe a good idea to visit in the winter months when it would be quieter and less people around.

With almost 200 bikers in Exeter for a week long event, we scheduled this place as the lunch stop on two of our organised tours each day, so we had about 24 people visit daily. The staff helped this go smoothly by allowing us to phone main course orders through from our morning coffee stop so they could be ready for us. I only heard positive reports of the food all week. I tried the veggie burger which was lovely and the chips were excellent. French guests used to excellent food were very happy with the steak and ale pies. Puddings were also good - I had the Eton Mess which was nicely balanced between sweet meringue and cream and sharp fruit. The sticky toffee pudding and the spotted dick were also really good. Highly recommend this place!
