We went to this restaurant for dinner based on the reviews on TripAdvidor. Sure, there were only 8 reviews, but they were all 5 stars, so we thought maybe it was a diamond in the rough situation? Not so. It was just your standard hole-in-the-wall place, serving very mediocre, cheap food. The server was perfectly pleasant, and there was nothing wrong with the food, but it certainly wasn't anything I would recommend to someone who only has a few opportunities while in Sri Lanka to try some really delicious curries and sambol that you can get around the island. My recommendation is to eat the food at your hotel, get an early safari, and then move on to Ella or Mirissa by mid-day.

The Alpine Hotel is a strangely laid out building, rather like coming upon a once grand house in the Sussex Downs in England. Full of old and rather worn-out furniture, in effect not unlike the likeable staff at the Hotel, the Lake View Pub is an experience. Rather than getting us up to the First & Second Floor bars, the bars came to us. And delightful it was. A good experience.
