We are a friendly, local, CAMRA award winning real ale pub with a cosy bar with real fire in the colder weather, a lovely garden room to enjoy or hire for your event, meeting or function and a large beer garden and patio area to enjoy with petanque courts
The Sun Inn is clearly a very popular local pub - and you can understand why. Traditional style, very good beer, friendly service and a good atmosphere. Ticks all the boxes really.

We arrived at 7.55pm having been delayed getting to Rosedale and finding the pub in the village had stopped serving food early, and although they stopped food at 8pm the very kindly fed us, delicious steak and ale pie and my husband had lambs liver, also excellent, he had the chocolate fondant for dessert which looked amazing and I had the bread and butter pudding which was s bit stodgy but nice flavour. Good selection of gin and husband happy with Theakstons on tap. Dogs welcome in also. Thanks to the staff for getting us fed and happy! Dear Annieoakley19Thank you very much for your visit and your review. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Thanks and regards. JS

Was all very disappointed, with the poor service and the food, 4 of our 5 meals were wrong, waitress just shrugged her shoulders, didn't bother changing them as it would of been a long wait, you had to order and pay for your food before you sat down, which caused lengthy queues, only.one member of staff doing bar and food orders, so couldnt blame her, a large group came in and their orders were so wrong, had to queue again for deserts which again took ages, and they were nothing to write home about, all in all very poor, wont be going there again

An unforgettable selection of gins, whiskys and all other types of delectable drinks you could possibly desire. Swing by and enjoy a tipple with us at one of the friendliest bars in North Yorkshire. Whether you're hankering for an indulgent slice of cake
We don't often enjoy lunch as much as this. We had 3 plates for £15, a beer and a G&T. Nothing unusual perhaps but we sat in the sun and had some great banter (south v north) with a blonde lady (the owner?) which all made it a good occasion. They even ran out of pitta bread but no problem they went aross the road and got some more.Well done guys!So pleased you enjoyed your lunch with us. Hopefully we made your day out on the train one to remember. We always love a customer with a great bit of banter, so come back soon for south v north, part 2 :)

We have a brigade of 5 in the kitchen serving AA rosette accredited food (since 1997) with friendly and well trained front of house staff. And happily we are actually in Pickering. Depending on season you can curl up by a fire, eat outside on our sun-terr
Stumbled across the White Swan on a Sunday evening, searching for somewhere decent to eat in Pickering which seemed to be closed. We were seated at the front lounge because they said that the restaurant was full but we saw no evidence of that, in fact the place felt like a morque. That aside we were seated and ordered our meal, Risotto was bland and Luke warm, my Hake was okay but didnt excite the taste buds, dessert was the highlight, but chocolate with cherry sauce and ice cream is always appreciated. Will not be planning a second visit. Thank you sharing your experience although I'm really sorry you left having found it very ordinary. I can only assume that if the restaurant wasn't full they were expecting a party later in the evening or perhaps that they felt that the snug would be a cosier environment for you on a quiet evening but this should have been better explained to you. We always like to resolve any issues straight and and never want any one to leave disappointed. On this occasion you clearly did and your comments regarding the food really bother me. I would be grateful if you could contact me directly at [email protected] to discuss your visit further. I look forward to hearing from you.

We Serve food all day every day, We are famous for our filled yorkshire puddings and great steaks, fresh scarborough haddock and whitby Scampi, we have a full range of burgers, we cater for gluten free.
My wife and I, along with another couple were on our way to Whitby for a weekend break and we stopped at the Black Bull for a snack lunch en route. I only fancied a quick pint and a snack but the menu was so inviting that we all picked something to eat from their "Mains Menu". The homemade food was out of this world, I chose a giant Yorkshire pudding with pork sausages. I can honestly say, it was the biggest Yorkshire I have ever seen! It came with chips, lovely gravy and every mouthful was delicious. We all cleaned our plates and the beer, Yorkshire blonde, was excellent. The service was fast, efficient and very friendly. To xcap it off, the prices are very reasonable.

Do pies get better than this? My mother (94) is the best pie maker in the world. Her comment....'delicious, perfectly seasoned, light and crispy crust.' Accompanied by good chips and fresh veg. As for the beer. Awesome. Tasting glasses ler you try each. And I did. Well worth a huge detour.

Pub in Pickering Market Place doing very good pub food-newly changed hands and relaunched
Stopped off here for lunch on way to holiday retreat. Booked in advance and chose this pub because of its central location and it allows dogs. Asked about car parking in advance and although the pub has no parking, the person who answered the phone explained where to park in Pickering. We were all made welcome and the lunch was excellent. 2 of the group had pie and were pleased to be served with a proper pie as it had a base and top and not just a pastry topping. There is an outside area at the back and water bowls for dogs. The toilets were clean.Definitely worth another visit soon.

An evening with friends; the pub and restaurant were busy when we arrived on a weekday early evening, so advisable to book. Food excellent, a little delay in service due to influx of dinners, however the complimentary bread & olives was a nice gesture. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. A lovely dining atmosphere in the bar area. Highly recommended.
