Came to this restaurant for the second time. The first time was terrible but we will always give places a second chance....unfortunately it was even worse second time round!Menu has gone down hill from 6 months ago, now just purely pub food, none of which was cooked well, tasty or complete (as described on the menu). Plenty of better places to eat in Oakham, so donât bother with here.

Enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch here with friends. I had the beef, which was beautiful and portion sizes were decent. We ordered a side of delicious cauliflower cheese and couldnât resist choosing from the pudding menu. Nice garden area to enjoy the sunshine. Only thing stopping it being 5 stars was food could have been hotter - it was like warm when it arrived. Extra gravy soon sorted that out. Excellent, friendly service.

My friend and I were staying in Oakham on a mid week break. The Wheatsheaf was recommended to us by a couple in our hotel as they had dined there the previous evening. We were greeted by a very helpful and pleasant man called Dan, who I believe is the owner. He answered our questions about the menu. It was a Thursday evening and the offer was 2 8oz.steaks for £15.The sirloin steaks were supplied by Nelson, the local butchers on the High Street. The menu featured many homemade dishes and sounded delicious. We were spoilt for choice. The prices were very reasonable compared with many pubs 8n the town. Our food arrived promptly and it was absolutely delicious. We were lucky to get the last portion of blueberry cheesecake and it was devine. We received checkbacks from Dan during the evening. I would recommend booking a table here to avoid disappointment. It was a wet and cold evening so the open fire was most inviting. The combination of tasty food and welcoming staff made the ideal combination. If only all pubs could clone this winning recipe. Thank you for a lovely evening. I will be back soon with family and friends.

We like returning to this local village pub. Every year it just gets better. We didn't book but tried our luck by turning up. The pub had developed the paddock opposite so same car parking and additional facilities for visitors. The staff are very welcoming and happy to help. We had the white bait and halloumi specials that came with a fresh salad and a tuna nicoise to share. Excellent food lovely cosy pub quick efficient service.Recommended Good evening, thank you for your kind review. I'm glad that you took advantage of our specials and like you say we work hard to try and keep improving. We hope to keep welcoming you back again and again!

The Lord Nelson is a beautiful pub tucked away in the heart of Oakham. As just one of two towns in Rutland, Oakham itself is packed with character. The Lord Nelson fits in perfectly â dating back to the 1500âs the building has been lovingly restored the K
We were looking for food at 6.30pm on a Friday night while passing close to Oakham. We had been recommended this place. What a great recommendation. Liked the quirky layout plus the cricketers wallpaper. Liked the way they did the food ordering and the food was excellent. Fish and chips for me, best chips for a long time and crunchy tasty battered fish. Pie for my husband, delicious.

You will enjoy stepping back in time in the quierky bar area. Wooden panelling and great fire place. I would recommend a visit in the winter to cash in on the cosy environment.

Came across this lovely place on our way back from Rutland Water. Arrived about 1.30 and went for the ciabattas (1 cheese and pickle, 1 Brie and bacon), both with potato wedges and coleslaw. Very tasty, and very filling - couldnât manage a dessert this time, but will definitely go back one evening before long. Very welcoming and friendly as well. So glad we found it.

Recently attended the wheatsheaf in Langham and it was as good as ever. We opted for the roast dinner which was magnificent. Really helpful staff and owners who go above and beyond to make sure you're accommodated and even bring out a legendary steak and ale pie, just because they wanted to ensure we were looked after!

We have now visited The Fox and Hounds on four occasions each time for Sunday lunch which is always superb.Because it is so good, and other people know about it, it is invariably fully booked and really it is necessary to book well in advance. This time we booked four weeks ahead. There were four of us all selecting beef for our main course, delicious, perfectly cooked as were all the vegetables, etc. Observation. Desserts chosen were accompanied by vanilla ice cream which lacked creaminess, it was rather watery.Staff are efficient and as the wheels of industry turn in the kitchen a well oiled performance is produced for all diners to enjoy. So looking forward to our next visit.
