Above the pub is their Brasserie, which serves a short and eclectic menu in a much more relaxed ambience than the pub proper.Service was prompt and attentive. Though the food I had was not exceptional, overall I considered it a very good dining experience.Thank you for joining us, Upstairs. Glad you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to welcoming you back!

A casual but up-market feel pub, The Oaks is generally a good choice. But over the recent years, the prices have skyrocketed and you get the feeling you're at a (dollar-grabbing) Merivale establishment instead of a local gem. This week, we went there for dinner and were sorely disappointed. We got there at 7:45pm but we got our dinner at 9:45pm. We were eating while saying goodnight to departing guests! Apparently, they'd run out of mussels. Worst is that we ONLY found out after we approached the kitchen itself - over an hour later. No one bothered to tell us. Nevermind giving us (the 5-minutes it takes to make) the poke salad we also ordered; they apparently had plenty of those. Further, the staff asked management to give us a refund and the management offered a $30 food voucher. Don't bother mate - not coming back to use it. In fairness, the wait staff were very friendly and apologetic. The kitchen was quick (once we got in their faces), the food was decent, and they gave us complimentary garlic bread & a dessert to share. However, the lack of staff to cope with the dinner rush, the lack of communication between the kitchen and the (single!) register taking food orders, and the unwillingness to give up a single dollar for ruining someone's evening is indicative of poor but greedy management. Shame really. The Oaks is a neighbourhood icon and they've totally replaced the community reason it exists with the pursuit of your dollars. Enjoy!

Tucked down an alley and hidden underground, Palmer & Co. is a time warp to the era of prohibition with its bootleggers, sly-groggers and the like. The 1920s-style clandestine bar serves up an extensive menu of spirits and specially crafted cocktails usin
It's sort fo hidden. If you don't know that it's in a small alley there are chances you will not find it. When we entered the bar, the first thing that hit was music which transports you to another era straight away. The ambiance is fantastic! It's like you have time traveled into the 1920s, the music, the decor, the servers in their unique attire (all had different looks but1920s theme going on), the lighting all serve the purpose of transporting you to the 20's. They have a live singer too. It was jam-packed and there was not a single table or even a spot to stand was available. But we got lucky within 10 minutes and got a spot on a small standing table. The cocktails are great I tried a couple and all were around $20. My favorite was Mercy Me. Whatever food we tried was also good. If you don't get a table then it might be a little troublesome, as me personally I don't like holding my drinks all evening long I need a spot (especially in an over crowded bar). My suggestion is to keep an eye on one of the standing tables and grab it quickly if someone is about to leave. That's what we did.Overall, we have loads of fun. It was a fun night. I would go there again for sure.

Located in The Rocks area of Sydney, Endeavour offers some very good beer, which they make locally. They also have wine and cocktail available. We popped in while walking around Sydney, needed to quench our thirst. Unfortunately, there was an Oktoberfest celebration taking place across the street and the drunken revelry had spilled into the pub. I'd like to revisit Endeavour under more normal circumstances.Hi Max, Thanks for your feedback. You'll be pleased to hear that Oktoberfest is done for another year so we eagerly await you popping back in - this time with live music available Sat/Sun. See you soon.
