This is a very plain pub, nothing fancy. The food is straight up comfort food. Lots of food specials every day (look on their website). Food always comes out fast, they have runners whose only job is delivering the food, friendly upbeat staff. Highly recommend!!!

I have been to this pub before years ago, and as we were passing the door yesterday decided to stop for lunch. I hadn't noticed before, but it said over the door that it was established in 1885. Now that is shades of Britain, something to last that long. Now it's not the Ritz, but it's small, not one of these huge open gin palaces, it's very clean, with lots of old stuff hanging on the walls. The staff extremely friendly, you almost feel like one of the locals. They have a very good menu for such a small out of the way place, and we opted for their "Ginger beef stir fry on rice", it was the daily special at $11.25. Well I'm here to tell you it was great, a pint of honey brown beer for $5.70 and we were very happy. I was also surprised at first to see about 5 tables all with people at them eating, but now I understand, the food is really quite good. Not far off the beaten path if you are in the Nanaimo area, with a huge amount of parking too. Well worth at least one visit.

We attended a fundraiser at this pub. It was busy. Before the event started, we got an appetizer and drinks. The white wine was not even chilled and tasted like urine. The appetizer (wings) were average. Once the event started, the wait person (who was lovely) suggested we order as the food could take an hour (which it did) for the worst frozen burger in human history. We like pubs normally but the food was bad. The fries were horrible and the salad was the size of oneâs palm. We are not going to return to this establishment. The music was way too loud for anyone to enjoy let alone assist with the event.

British Pub Style Restaurant in Nanaimo's Heritage Train Station in the Old City Quarter. Fully Licenced. Children Welcome. 16 Draft Beers. Friendly, Casual service in an authentic environment
I had a dinner meeting recently at the Coach and Horses, and was greeted by friendly, enthusiastic staff. The restaurant is located in a historic train station and is a traditional pub style eatery.I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I ordered the blackened chicken burger with chips. The chicken breast, was perfectly prepared with delicious seasoning on a fresh bun with ample condiments. The chips were hot and crispy. The Coach and Horses has a casual, neighbourhood atmosphere with a large outdoor patio. I highly recommend it, as it has a broad menu, including many vegetarian and vegan options.

Had to to a quick run to Nanaimo for parts, and looked for something 'nearby' to eat at. Landlubber came up as convenient with good ratings, so gave it a try. Nice pub, clean and neat. Lots going on with sports tvs, pool table, and a dedicated band/musician area. Good menu, with lots of selection at reasonable prices. Special of the day was a really good bowl of soup with a roast beef and cheese sandwich for 8.95. Also one of the best Long Island Ice Teas that I've had in a long time!

We've been here a number of times and never been disappointed. However the dinner we had last evening was the best yet. We both chose the dinner special, a spaghetti dish with prawns, candied salmon and a lovely sauce. Delicious and reasonably priced. Nice selection of draft beers and wines all reasonably priced as well. Service was great, fiendly and helpful. For the value this has got to be one of the top restaurants/pubs in Nanaimo. We'll be back.

The Dinghy Dock Pub & Restaurant has been an attraction in Nanaimo, British Columbia since 1989. The expansive views, relaxed atmosphere and great pub fare make us a popular destination year round. We are the only registered floating pub in Canada making
Thereâs nothing like The Dinghy Dock. After a ten minute ferry ride from Nanaimoâs inner harbor to Protection Island, youâre on a floating pub with a spectacular view of Nanaimo and area. Unfortunately, not everything the pub offers lives up to its unique location.Iâve been here a few times over the years, and on this occasion, it was to see an amazing acoustic concert by Nanaimoâs blues sensation David Gogo. Kudoâs to the owner for bringing in such great live music! We arrived for supper, and hereâs where things started to slide sideways. The shared Crispy Cauliflower appie ($12) was okay, my Cobb Salad ($19) a little less so. The anemic white chicken pieces, guacamole instead of the usual avocado slices, meh ranch dressing, and flavorless tomato slices that were probably flown in from Mexico in the midst of tomato season did nothing to elevate this salad to something special, the ample pieces of bacon and blue cheese being its saving grace. I finished the salad doubting that any of the individual ingredients had been prepared in-house. My partnerâs cheeseburger (about $16) suffered from a reportedly dry patty, and my friendâs Herb Roasted Halibut ($23) was again overcooked and perched beside a virtual mountain of shredded carrot, all atop some salad greens. He wasnât impressed.A reasonable selection of beer is offered with Longwood, Hoyne, and Driftwood being the main brews. Prices are average at around $7 for a sixteen ounce glass. Cocktails and a small wine selection are also available. Service started okay and became non-existent as the evening wore on, with waits of up to a half hour for drinks. Granted it was busy because of the concert, but this place is often busy on good days when the patios are open. An undrinkable glass of a go-to craft lager from a fresh cask (wrong cask?) had to be returned to the bar after we couldnât get our serverâs attention. That said, our initial appie order was replaced without issue after it showed up drizzled in a creamy parmesan sauce we had requested on the side.Iâll be back for David Gogoâs great annual acoustic show next year, but not before then. If youâre looking for a nice ferry ride to a unique pub in a stunning five star location, definitely check out the Dingy Dock, but expect two to three star food and service on a good day.

English-style Pub and garden located in the countryside. Licensed for patrons 19 and up. Sorry, no minors.
The Crow and Gate Pub is on the road to no-place special, and as you drive looking for it there is nothing unique about this area except Vancouver Island farm land. Then you drive down a slightly marked driveway and suddenly you are at an English Public House in the middle of an English flower garden. It is frankly both magical and astounding. The Pub itself is all dark wooded, well aged, and poorly lighted. The gardens around are flowered and tended and beautiful. For non-publicans they have alcohol free beverages, but children are not allowed. I had an immensely satisfying Plowman's Lunch, with lovely fresh bread, at least 200 grams of cheese, salad and relishes. Sitting in the garden on a summer day, in this bit of transplanted Old England, sipping a mug of some brown soft-drink and enjoying the wonderful large plate of cheese and friends was an unanticipated delight.
