Alcona Brew Haus

I am hesitant to give the Alcona Brew Haus a 4-star rating, but I will anyway. The pro's: good beer selection and pretty good appetizers. The con's: no dry white wines, strange takes on classic sandwiches. The brewmaster certainly knows his craft. Their IPAs are very good with taste, structure, and consistency. Their whitefish spread appetizer is to die for. However, my wife likes wine, not beer, so she is difficult to please when we come to a brew house. She is a white wine fanatic, especially in the Summer. There are no dry white wines on the list. That is strange, especially since a mere couple of hundred miles West across the State it's home to a lot of wineries in the Leelanau and Mission Peninsula areas. A good Black Star Farm Arcturos Dry Riesling or something from Bowers Harbor or Good Harbor would be welcome additions to their list. Back to food . . . a good Cuban is a pork specialty, usually with ham and roast pork loin or pulled pork. The Brew Haus version has smoked brisket and capicole. I know, it's chef's choice, but I didn't like it that much. All-in-all, I like the Brew Haus. Harrisville and the surrounding area need more places to eat and drink. The Brew Haus will continue to be one of my favored choices.

Shotmakers Sports Bar & Grill

Not sure where to begin with Shotmakers - the turnover of staff is unbelievable - every time I have been in there in the last year and half the staff is changed - result of ownership or management? Food has gone down hill, staff/service is terrible. On a recent evening we waited an HOUR for a slider and a burger - while watching other food delivered around us - a problem in the kitchen - thinking so - but then again the server did not even acknowledge the length of this nor check back did we want another drink? Why did we stay - almost became comical - waiting to see what would happen next! The burger was ok - onion rings COLD and greasy; slider the bun so greasy slid off the burger. Having had a decent meal here before we were surprised at what came out of the kitchen - again not consistent. Definitely waiting for the new place in town to open! Will not be back here for food!

When you get a meal here your mouth will thank you. The food and service are small town wonderful. The atmosphere is quiet and friendly. Once you try their BBQ ribs you will be back. The fresh made pies beckon you to try each and everyone. My favorite being fresh homemade apple pie. Mom you have competition!
