Service is very polite and very reliable, food is great, and the pub has character. Could not ask for a more pleasant last minute, off the cuff visit. Would go there again without hesitation. Parking is plentyful at the rear with a small slope to contend with.

My friend and I decided to try here as they advertised menu, two courses for £10, lunch time Monday to Friday. Well we were pleasantly surprised. There was a good choice on this menu with starters mains and pudding to decide. We went for Gammon steak, Scampi then Chocolate fudge cake and Strawberry Sundae. All were superb. Gets quite busy but plenty of parking. Will try this lovely menu again soon.

Archangel is well known for its magnificent 3 storey restaurant built into an old hay barn adjacent to the main house. The ancient walls are simply whitewashed and embrace a free-floating glass mezzanine cube that seats up to twelve people around a single
I'm surprised by the relatively low rating of this place, which we absolutely loved. The menu offers a number of options for large meals or small, for all sorts of tastes and inclinations. The veggie plate was so unusual and utterly delicious. My friend's moules were, she said, the best she's ever eaten, and other friends enjoyed the rarebit. We appreciated the privacy of the top floor, all on our own. Will definitely return to the Archangel.

The Mill at Rode is a quintessential English inn, set on a stunning riverside site, surrounded by beautiful gardens and with a fabulous deck area overlooking the water. The Mill has some interesting history connecting it to royalty, come down and enquire.
I havenât reviewed on TA for ages, but had to come and review this place-itâs just brilliant! We went on a Saturday lunchtime: very warm welcome, v attentive staff, lovely warm fire on and the food was really, really lovely. My husband is vegan as the staff were so good going through the ingredients used, making sure the meal was completely vegan. The little play area is great for the children and the setting is so beautiful. We will back, most definitely. Honestly this is just a lovely country pub with great grub. (Ps: can I also add I am astounded by the previous negative comments and had to double check we had been to the same place! (It definitely is) Maybe itâs now under new management or something, because the previous negative comments don't reflect the place we visited on Saturday).

Our walking group had booked lunch here after a local walk - and I think we chose the wettest day of the year! So we were grateful for the friendly staff and their efficient service. Lunch was great value and well presented in pleasant pub surroundings.

Made welcome on arrival, pleased we were told would be a 20 minute wait for food as a large party were being served. Excellent pint of Butcombe and good glass of Sauvignon Blanc (Turtle Bay) whilst we waited. Starters of breaded mushrooms arrived at the promised time and were tasty and enjoyed by both of us. My wife enjoyed scampi, which came with a nice salad, and I enjoyed a BBQ brisket, that by request also came with a salad. Good portions of tasty food at a very reasonable price. Lovely country pub where you always get a good welcome, good beer & tasty food. Look forward to eating here again soon.

Very expensive, nice ambiance, staff is friendly, can get very crowded. Nice if you can get a place in the garden or inside, court yard a bit wobbly on the cobbles and right outside the toilets. Feels a little pretentious.

This place doesn't look particularly appealing from the outside and it isn't great inside either. The front of the pub needs to look more appealing in order to draw customers in and the inside was just a maze of shabby stairs and corridors until you finally reached a rather dull looking bar upstairs. The food here may be excellent but we only tried the beer which wasn't great.

Great place to stay in this area - rooms are clean, bright and have all the little extras like good selection of drinks and nice toiletries. Excellent service, the staff worked so hard to make our stay enjoyable, and the breakfast was just great - really large selection of fresh fruits, lovely butchers bacon and deliciously cooked! The meals in the evening were just great too! Highly recommend this place!
