The Screes is one of two inns in this hamlet, the other being the Strands. They are obviously under the same management. We ate at the Strands on Monday, when the Screes is closed. We booked by phone with no problem, using the Strands' phone number. We phoned the Screes' number on Wednesday and booked a table, which is recommended on this site, as they get very busy. We were expected and had an enjoyable meal and drink, with beer from the Strands' microbrewery across the road.We phoned the same number again on Thursday and booked for our evening meal. When we arrived, we were told there were no bookings at the time we had been given, as they had a party of 15 to feed. They told us we were booked in across the road at the Strands. The menus are very different in the two Inns and we had chosen the Screes because it has has several vegan options - my partner is vegan. The staff said that we would have been asked which Inn we were booking for, but this was not the case on either day. We were asked only for a time, the number of diners and our name, on both occasions. We must have been lucky on Wednesday - a 50:50 chance of being booked in at the right place! The two Inns have different phone numbers and we rang the number for the Screes, but were told the phone diverts to the Strands, which is why staff answering the phone should make sure which Inn is being booked. As they could not accommodate us and my partner had eaten the only vegan option on the menu at the Strands on the Monday, we had to drive an 8 mile round trip to Gosforth for whatever we could find to eat.Be WARNED by our bad luck and make sure you know where you will be eating. Both places are very busy and it seems that they are too busy to ensure that their own protocols are followed! The staff were apologetic, but that didn't get us fed! We're sorry for the issue with you final visit to us. We appreciate the feedback as we have recently change the way we handle bookings and we clearly needed to improve the way our staff make use of it. We have given all staff additional training to avoid this in the future and again, apologies about the issues you had.

On the far western side of the Lake District, the 17th century Inn at Ravenglass is located right on the waterfront - where the National Park reaches the sea giving fantastic views over the estuary The Inn's bar serves a fantastic selection of real ales a

Despite the mention on the page we do NOT serve vegan food or speciality milks. Despite the mention on the page we do NOT serve vegan food or speciality milks. There is mention somewhere on the Net that we have Camper Van parking - we are afraid that this
This is a great pub in a lovely location on the station platform. The interior has a line of old railway seats right next to the platform and a pleasant garden the other side. The beer is well kept and, when they could make a fortune by fleecing tourists, everything is very good value, staff are friendly and efficient and the food is decent. I had the Cumberland sausage which was a little greasy, but still tasty. Highly recommended! Thank you so much Beeza for your brilliant review!I have been away and was unable to respond promptly to you.Your writeup really gets to the heart of what we try to achieve at the Ratty arms, ie good all-round value for money in a welcoming environment with well-kept beer. We take note of your observation about the Cumberland sausage and will look into what would have made it greasy for your visit.Very kind regards - Bev (proprietor)

On a small road between the Boot Inn and Hardknot pass.
If you have just driven your 90 year old mother in law over the Hardknott Pass, what do you need? Obviously, a cream tea! And that's just what this ubiquitous bar/cafe/restaurant provided! And excellent it was too! Thanks!!

Brilliant country pub, decent range of ales and excellent service. Lots of tables inside and out. Menu had a good selection; pie was amazing with lots of succulent meat, lots of Vegies but over cooked chips - lovely gravy. Let down by sub-optimal sauces ( wot no Heinz). Good selection of deserts but we were all full so we didnât try. Lots of families and dogs welcome

Went there for a meal with 2 'locals', great choice and the food was excellent, Cajun Chicken, Moroccan Lamb, and a special. Price was good considering the quality, and additionally the beer was spot-on.Highly recommended but may need to book in advance .

The food is perfectly acceptable.Scallops were particularly good- big, plump and well cookedBut my major problem is dogs in the dining room. I canât understand how the hygiene inspectors can allow it. So if you like other peopleâs dogs sniffing around your ankles whilst you eat, this is a good choice.Hi, We have always been a friendly pub and due to out in house procedures have consistently received 5* for our hygiene. We don't allow dogs on our furniture or tables, don't allow anyone to feed their dogs from our plates or using our cutlery and ask owners to be mindful of keeping their four-legged friends under control and away from others. Even our dog-loving staff avoid contact with dogs during service times and make sure that they wash their hands should any contact occur at any point. We also ask dog owners to keep their dogs on a close leash whilst in the dining area and we'll make a point of mentioning this to owners who are dining or drinking with us.Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed your food.

The Boot Inn nestles in the tiny hamlet of Boot, deep in the heart of the Eskdale Valley. Within easy walking distance of The English Lake Districts largest and most majestic fells, yet only 7 miles from the sea. We provide first class food, drink and acc
Just returned from a 1 night stay in The Boot Inn. Visiting daughter who is working in area for summer and to celebrate her latest work achievements. All four of us spent the night and had a meal. Really friendly welcome when we arrived, shown to rooms and a table booked for later. Food was excellent. Catered well for the 2 veggies in the party. Rooms clean and comfortable. A delicious hearty breakfast too.We stay quite frequently in pubs with rooms and what set The Boot apart was the friendly relaxed atmosphere. 2 lads behind bar last night lovely. Girl at breakfast equally so. Oh and a lovely cuddle from Frankie the boxer pup. It really makes a difference when the staff are all so nice. We canât wait to return.
