Family Run Pub and Restaurant since 1971.
Four of us ate here over Easter weekend. The menu is fairly varied and the selections we made were very nice. This is not fine dining but just honest pub grub. The staff were pleasant and it seemed to be a real locals place which is nice to see. I would visit again if I was in the area.Hello,Thanks. You are right, it is good old food, nothing flash, nothing miniscule but we hope to be serving good food at reasonable prices and again you're right. It is a local village pub that always welcomes visitors. We hope to see you again.regardsAl

Stayed here for three nights recently. The rooms are separate from the pub at the rear. The rooms are clean and have very comfy beds with down filled duvets and pillows. The showers lack pressure and not very good. The wifi is non existent. The pub itself is a warm and welcoming place and the food is excellent. One night the four of us ordered the steak pie, it was the biggest portion i have seen and none of us could finish it! Breakfast is cooked fresh and is excellent. In summary, a great place with a few niggles on the room front.

Visited for a family celebration meal. Over priced meals and rude staff. The food is tasteless and the staff are rude. Starters cost nearly as much as main meals. Good size portions on main meals but bland food. Very unwelcoming and clicky atmosphere. Staff need customer service training. The place looks generally grubby and staff are slow to clean up dirty tables. Very unpleasant. If you can't comment when paying the bill why do it on here

Called in for food prior to attending Crookfest. Used Spoons many times before so knew exactly what to expect. Opted for empire state burger and chicken strips, 15 quid all in, including a pint each.Food was decent quality despite every table being full. Clean plates all round, well worth the money. Will we return. Yes next time we visit.23Colin23Thanks for the good review. We are pleased you enjoyed your visit on a very busy morning/afternoon.We had a fantastic morning serving everyone who was going to crookfest and hope you enjoyed your day.Would be good to see you soon

The Red Lion was originally a farm, then in the late 1700's it became a Drovers Inn and was used by farmers to water and rest themselves and their stock on the journey to Bishop Auckland mart. Our restaurant serves an extensive menu offering plenty of cho
Brought family here having visited before. I chose one of the vegetarian dishes from a board which was brought over and family went for fish and chips. Service was quick and attentive, food very hot and with home-made chips. A local (Durham I think) real ale was recommended which was nice. Meals and drinks came out under £15 each. Will visit again.

Visited here after reading positive reviews, was not disappointed, what a little gem! Sunday lunch was amazing, fresh and beautifully cooked, and the price was just unbelievable. The pub is very quirky, definitely no frills but I liked it, loads of interesting things to look at. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, canât wait to go back. Please note, they donât accept payment by card here, itâs cash only, donât get caught out.

The Fir Tree Country Hotel, bar and restaurant is nestled in the small village of Fir Tree itself and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, right on the doorstep of the Durham Dales. Just a 10 minutes drive to Bishop Auckland and only 12 miles from the
We have eaten here many times and enjoyed the food. However, today we called in for a drink on our way home at lunchtime. I took a seat at the bar whilst my husband went to order the drinks. There was no one behind the bar. O.k. Busy time. We waited and waited. Then my husband pressed the bell, still no one !!! We eventually left. No one even noticed us going.

Called on Friday around 5pm no problem getting a table for two. Prompt and polite service at the bar. Order taken at bar and food arrived after a little wait means freshly cooked. Nicely presented, tasted beautiful and tartar sauce home made best I have had complimented the succulent scampi. Well done will return. Waiting staff have had good training.

The Copper Mine is a pub which has a quirky interior and aims to offer food from simple dishes to dishes which any restaurant would be proud to offer!
