Lovely country pub over looking the beautiful green in Cavendish. Family friendly as well as dog friendly. Our menu is seasonal and will change throughout the year. we have a beautiful garden with benches available for seating within summer or as you wish
Can't really comment on the food (it looked good) as we only stopped for drinks, but what a superb place to have a drink, sit and take in the amazing views across the green. It was so peaceful and a sheer delight to be there on a Sunday morning.Hello, We are so happy your enjoyed your stop off here at the five bells and hope perhaps in the future you may stop by for some food. Many thanks The Five Bells Team

Karen, Paul, Damien and Jack welcome you to the Wickhambrook Greyhound and Twenty one. The Greyhound opened its doors under its current owners in August 2011 after being purchased from Greene King. The Greyhound has since undergone a huge refurbishment in
On 14th September I held a surprise 50th Birthday party for my partner at this restaurant which was a 3 course meal and a disco afterwards. Everyone who attended said how exceptional the food was and how well it was organised. I had been liaising with Jack since January and he went above and beyond to accommodate my requirements and ensure everything went smoothly on the night. He responded promptly to my messages and helped ensure that the surprise was kept a secret even planning the arrival at the venue to ensure the surprise was kept until the very last miinute. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue whether you are planning an event or an evening out. I have had many evenings out here and the food and service has always been amazing. I can't recommend this place enough!

We dined here for lunch on a Saturday. We ate in the bar area-as opposed to the restaurant. This is not really a pub in the traditional sense. We had what I would describe as high quality Anglo French gastro pub food. My White Hart Salad as a starter was really good. Excellent semi sun dried tomatoes, Stilton, lardons and crayfish with the usual French type leaves and excellent dressing was most enjoyable. This was followed by really tasty chicken schnitzel with tomato and caper butter and dauphinois. So definitely not typical pub food. Decent home made apple and sultana crumble for pudding. My wifeâs Pimms was too strong. That was served in a horrible pub glass with too many strawberries and cucumber and too much ice. No mint, no decent glass and as far too strong needed to be topped up with lemonade to make it like a Pimms should be. Not inexpensive but still good value for the quality of cuisine. We hadnât been here for years. Last here when it was owned and run by John Dickens. Thatâs the last time we visited when he was rude to my wife about an allergy issue with one of his other restaurants. So it put us off returning. Will definitely return and pity we didnât return earlier. If it hadnât been for the Pimms then five blobs/stars.

We decided to visit the Bull again after having such good service last time. We arrived at 12.20 on Bank Holiday monday to find the front door closed and locked. We returned again at 1pm .The bar lights were not switched on but there were four people in the pub so we presumed the Pub was open. only to be told that the person serving behind the bar had disappeared saying that she had some orders to prepare in the kitchen. As there was no one waiting for food we were surprised ! we waited for 10 minuites to be served but even after knocking on the kitchen door no one arrived. We left feeling very thirsty !!!

Tried the new menu with the family and it was really great..generous helpings and a good mix of pub favourites across different price points..enthusiastic and attentive people at the helm. Being out of the way and down a no-through road passing trade is hard to maintain, so recommend it. Nice local walks afterwards or beforehand from Cavendish and surroundings. Dog friendly as well..

Stayed here for 4 nights as I was attending a course nearby. This isnât somewhere Iâd have been happy to pay to stay. The rooms are adequate but with very soft beds, I know this is down to personal preference, just not to my taste. The others in my group all felt as if the staff arenât really bothered if you have a good experience or not. On returning to my room one day the door had been left unlocked, luckily nothing had been taken. On the last morning no one could get into the hotel to get to the restaurant and we were waiting outside for 30 minutes and when we could get someoneâs attention we were that someone obviously forgot to open it. My overriding view of the whole experience is âmust do better â which is a shame as the place could be very good.Dear cmcl23We are sorry that your stay was not up to our usual high standard Its not acceptable that your door was left unlocked and this has been addressed with housekeeper responsible. We must apologise for the door being locked in the morning we reviewed our CTV footage and found another guest leaving inadvertently locked the door behind them in error. We have taken your feedback in a constructive way so the team can improve. If you wish to contcat us directly regarding your stay please do so at [email protected]

A family, last minute booking, late in the day was accommodated at a comfortable table in the heart of the pub. Friendly service from a family run enterprise with a varied menu to choose from. We understand from our conversations with our friendly waitress that the food is fresh, home prepared on the premises...we were not disappointed in this respect. Four of us choose different menu items, each was served perfectly and promptly, each was delicious. Good value, well priced, we will return.

A warm welcome awaits you in this 16th century restaurant with rooms. The George is situated on the edge of the village green in Cavendish, positioned in between the popular villages of Clare and Long Melford and just a short drive from the timeless villa
Starting with the good, the flat iron steak was perfectly cooked and the hake fillet blackboard special also, so the chef knows whatâs to be done. We were left unimpressed by the service. We had booked and on arrival taken to table with an A3 sized sheet and two smaller pieces of paper arranged for us with no explanation of what they were. Turned out to be a large drinks menu, a set menu and a main menu. We sat by the blackboard so could see the specials. That was the arrival, some minutes later another server placed a bottle of water on table. Ten minutes later the drinks order was taken and after what seemed a long time the drinks arrived with another bottle of water. Other diners had bread rolls and I saw ours do a tour of the restaurant before the server found out that the rolls she was carrying should come to our table. Food arrived with another server who asked if we wanted a second drink which we did but never got before we finished our meal. We didnât bother with a dessert as four loud staggering drunks arrived and were seated next to us, so we left. We got a âsorry â for the lack of second drinks when paying at the bar and were asked to identify the one who took the order but we had had so many at our table it was hard to say. A disappointing evening.

Lovely pub with a traditional pub menu. We have a large garden at the back with a children's play area too.
My wife and I decided to have a date night in a relaxed and tranquil local village. So we chose Clare as our destination for the evening. We were greeted by very friendly local members of the community and we asked, where, in Clare would you recommend ourselves to dine this evening. We were told that The Swan would be our best bet, so we trotted along to the venue in question. On arrival I was exceptionally impressed with the warm welcome that embraced us, and instantly felt comfortable. The Swan quite clearly is a very well kept pub and carries a very family oriented environment. It has a wide range of real ales and they have some unusual drinks that I enquired about and the staff happily explained what they were.We were then seated in the restaurant for our evening meal.I chose the pie and mash which couldnât be faulted and my wife had the fish and chips which she described as second to none! All in all, we retired home feeling we had lovely evening and a fantastic meal at an exceptionally good price in Clare and visiting The Swan was a wonderful experience. We will certainly return
