With a long history dating back to before the American Revolution, it's not a surprise that Carlisle is full of historic treasures, including a church once attended by George Washington and a courthouse damaged by artillery during the Civil War. Despite this impressive heritage, the city is most famous for being Pennsylvania's "automotive capital," hosting ten annual car, truck, and motorcycle shows that are attended by a half a million people each year.

I went here specifically to try the spirits...and, well, maybe because of the fire service theme! :). The décor here, and theme throughout, is all focused on the fire service, but it isn't overboard or in your face (the two owners are apparently active/retired firefighters). I didn't have the food, but the menu looked appealing. I did try the whiskey, which I did like, and ended up with a whiskey cocktail, which was very enjoyable. I definitely liked this place. As a note, it appears that their whiskey currently isn't made in house...it's contracted to a place in Virginia using their recipe, but they are working on plans to distill in-house.

The food at Alibis is not great. The chili is greasy. The bar aspect of Alibis is average. I was not charged accurately. The pricing on my bill was not the same as listed on the menu.If I was charged accurately I would have rated Alibis as average.Ann,I'm sorry this happened. I know this was a while ago, but it should not have happened in the first place. If you feel like coming back and talking to a manager about your experience, we'll do what we can to make it right.-Alex

I have only been here once and that was about 18 years ago, so I was pleasantly surprised by the classic, over the top Irish Pub décor (ceiling fans, signs, flags, wood, stained glass, etc.). It is as good a themed interior you will find anywhere. The next thing I noticed was the smell of cigarette smoke which was odd because I thought it was a non-smoking restaurant. As I walked from the bar level to the upper level the smell became stronger. Evidently there is another section behind the dining room that allows smoking in a bar like setting. When I got back to my hotel room my clothing and underwear all reeked of smoke, horrible. They offer an very extensive and diverse menu. I started with two appetizers, the wings ($13 for 12) and onion rings ($7.50). Both ended up being ½ price I guess because I arrived and ordered before 7pm. The wings were average size and taste but not plump as advertised. The crisp onion rings were large and better than average. It came with a very good horseradish remoulade sauce. My waitress recommended Wrangler sandwich ($11) was great. Open faced roast beef with peppers, onions and cheese. It was large, had a lot of roast beef and had a great taste. It came with a side of au jus to dip. My side was coleslaw which was minced and served cold. Overall the best I have eaten so far in Carlisle. One thing to look out for is the gingerbread cookie you get when you get your bill.

Brick is a modern, informal restaurant with good food and service in downtown Carlisle. The décor is modern and airy, with high ceilings and big windows. Outside seating is shaded and very pleasant. Fina bill very was a very reasonable $20 per person. Highly recommended.A friend made reservations for our group of nine people to have lunch outside. We arrived on time, and our friends were already seated waiting for their drinks. The service was excellent and patient, taking care not to interrupt conversations of this mini reunion. I had the Lobster Roll was very good, and others who ordered the Spinach Salad and the Fish Tacos gave their food two-thumbs up. In fact, everyone gave their food two-thumbs up.We went to Brick on a sunny afternoon and appreciated both the outside seating and the shade. Since outside seating is at the back, it was fairly quiet. Great lunch!
