The Islwyn Inn is a modern, friendly restaurant and lounge. We are a family run business with a Welsh theme, and we are proud to source our food from local Welsh suppliers whenever possible, which is then freshly prepared on the premises.
Visited this evening with my cousin and her husband who were on holiday in the area, after reading previous reviews regarding the service I was a bit concerned- no need.Food and service was excellent, we did wait a while between courses but it was well worth the wait, anyway we were all used to eating in France where nothing is rushed. Thanks Islwyn Inn for a lovely meal , especially "oggie, oggie, oggie".

Have used this pub regularly since 2010 but after this evening no more.Called in at 5pm with family including 2 children aged 1 and 6 thinking it would be relatively quiet with families and couples eating. How wrong could I be. The pub was full of white van men who throughout our visit continued to constantly use the F word and other profanities despite there being children in close proximity. I complained to the barmaid and asked could we use the back room but was informed it had been booked for the evening for a private party. She did say she would tell the manager but nothing ever happened to improve the situation. We quickly finished our meal as the white van men started singing rude songs and headed to the Pontygwindy Inn which was full of families and not a F word to be heard. Marstons be aware that you are losing your regular customers by allowing this behaviour to go unchallenged. Will not visit again.

The management needs to learn a bit more about customer service. Rude, bad service from the higher ups. Felt bad for our friends that paid for the meal!Kevin456789, we would appreciate it if you took the time to give us, and anyone else reading your review, a little more detail please. Uninformative and pointless leaving such a review unless you are going be more specific about the date you visited and problems you encountered.

I was told this place was a decent place to eat. Well on the plus side the food, when it eventually arrived was good. Other than that nothing positive to review. We booked a table for two and on arrival were seated in the middle of the dining area on a 4 seater table. The overall décor is one of a pub bar, nothing special. We decided to order the Sunday lunch roast. My partner went up to the bar to place the order at 12.25 and although the place was not 'rushed off their feet' we did not get our meal until 1.10 and after we had to ask when we would be served. I noticed others were also asking where their meal was as the people on the table next to ours ordered well before us and only received their meal a few moments before us. On another table people had to ask where their meal was and on delivery the food was not what they had ordered. As to service, well two waitress's were busy working the service of delivering meals and collecting dishes while the bar had three working there. Allocation of staff questionable. Overall. Food nice, but service and time from order to meal arriving poor. Will we visit again. No.

A detached building in the heart of Caerphilly Mountain. Boasting a locals bar that allows dog walkers to enjoy a well earn't food & drink. Our restaurant caters for 70 people and we serve food all week. We have a large car park and also 2 beer gardens wi
We reserved a table for five and perhaps the tone of the evening was set when despite one of the party on crutches, no one showed us to our table, we found it ourself. All evening, we had to find staff to serve us from drinks to main courses, whilst pleasant young people, totally pathetic service.I canât believe how awful two of the meals were. A white lump of chicken served with a tasteless sauce, the chicken tasted like a lump of boiled chicken. had we not been in company I would have sent them back. It beggars belief that a restaurant serving battered fish doesnât have tartar sauce, so that meal was also tarnished. To finish the evening, whilst still waiting for someone to take the dessert order, we grabbed the young waitress who was carrying the vacuum cleaner to the back of the pub. With a little ill will, we did get desserts eventually. The vacuuming then commenced, how utterly rude when people are still eating. I have given three stars as the burger meals were good, had my rating been based on the chicken in white wine, two bits of mushroom and no detectable Parmesan, I would have been looking at minus 1.Thank you for your accurate review. We have taken up this with the team at the pub and this won't happen again.Apologies

A Martsons two for one pub located in Caerphilly, a few miles from Cardiff City Centre and 25 minutes away from the Brecon Beacons national park.
I want to commend this restaurant to anyone thinking of visiting! Food was excellent, plentiful and served VERY quickly! Staff were all courteous and professional and the manager was wonderful! I stayed in the adjoining hotel and will be glad to patronise this restaurant if I ever stay here again.

Had Sunday lunch here. We both went traditional with my wife having the roast beef and I had the trio of roasts. We thought the beef was slightly overdone, however the gammon and turkey on my trio were very nice. There was a nice variety of well cooked vegetables and the apple and blackberry tart we both had for dessert was very good. They have a very Lovely to read your comments about your experience, I'll make sure to pass them on to the rest of the team. I came to the Pontygwindy this afternoon to have a meal with my wife and children. We ordered 2 Beef Sunday Dinners, a children's Pizza and a Pickin chicken for my children. Within a matter of minutes the meals were out and cooked to perfection! Very friendly and polite staff, both on bar and on floor. Highly recommend this place, first time being here and definitely won't be the last.Hey ChrisAqhart,Thank you for taking your time for leaving us such a lovely review!
