We are a high quality country inn offering pub classics alongside more refined a la carte menus. Dogs and country folk welcome! See you soon!
What an absolute gem....The Black Lion is in a small village but always seems busy which is not surprising as the food is excellent, the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had sunday lunch and a couple of evening meals while staying in the village. The chefs went above and beyond for us on all visits. The waiting staff were friendly and very attentive. We wish it was our local...absolutely fabulous.

Nestled comfortably in the small rural village of Sutton cum Lound a few miles north west of Retford is the The Gate Inn, a quintessential country pub and restaurant dishing up a hearty seasonal food menu alongside a carefully selected choice of cask ales
I cannot rate this pub/restaurant highly enough. We saw the amazing beer garden whilst passing and stopped for a drink. Loved it so much we came back the following evening for a meal. Extremely doggie friendly (we took our 12 week old springer). Food great - all homemade. Decor amazing. Staff so friendly and helpful. Just wish we werenât on holiday and it was nearer to home! Visit you wonât be disappointed!

We are quite regular customers - so get notified of offers but being busy meant we had not been since the Summer. As half-term treat, we took grand-daughter. She enjoyed her Mac & Cheese with garlic bread (although Gran thought it was a little bit bland). The adults enjoyed Lamb Shank (a regular choice) plus the new Baked Cod Loin (for the fish lover) and the new Beef & Doom Bar Pie - both judged to be very good.Daughter & grand-daughter shared (and enjoyed) a Belgian Waffle to finish. As we always find; the staff were friendly and helpful - hence the return visits.

Seven of us had a lovely Sunday afternoon lunch. welcoming, friendly and amenable. First time for some of us second/third for others. i think we will all be back again.Good choice of beers, including locally brewed. Good selection of gins too. Biggest problem of the day was deciding which to have!Nice clean and tidy pub. Not too cramped. Excellent choices on the menu and the specials board too.Food was served promptly and very well presented. All meals were excellent and huge. Well priced too. A good team of staff, courteous and respectful.Well done and thanks.

We used to enjoy eating here but our meal last night was awful..i asked if they had a new chef and they said no..service was slow and little personality..salad was very boring not like it used to be and the chicken was very thin and swimming in oil/butter and the steak was disgusting it was very fatty and lots of gristle running through it..the fudge cake was a small thin slice and not worth the money very disappointed...£48.00 in total for two..a total waste of money wont be going back there in a hurry its changed for the worse

Booked a table for 11 family members to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. From start to finish we can't fault the welcome, service and food we received. The food was all freshly cooked and delicious. We will definitely book our next family get together here.
