Things to do in Akita

This place is on the 3rd floor of a shopping mall and is surrounded by Japanese restaurants. It is unique. They have fresh micro-brew draft beer, and the hand-written menu shows that they have a cook with an interesting style. The beer is excellent and you can sit here all day and drink if you want. However, it's a little expensive. In October 2015 the big mug of beer is 700 yen, and the regular glass of beer is 450 yen. For comparison, a pint of beer at a convenience store or vending machine is around 320 yen maximum. I am going to post a picture of their beer menu that I took. The ambiance isn't great. It's a little too bright and the wait staff tends to stand around chatting with the cooks. However, I still found it relaxing to visit this place frequently during my stay in Akita. I can say that this place has an extremely wide customer base. From a 70 year old grandma, people on dates, young married couples with toddlers, and I even sat next to a couple of business meeting. I think this place is attractive because both the food and the beer are unique for this area. For food, I had the French fries (Fried Potato) and they had excellent seasoning and were crisp & not greasy. I also really enjoyed the kiritanbo. At first, I thought this was a fish cake. But it is a delicious rice based food! I attached a picture and I recommend you try it! Very yummy.

My wife and I visited because the restaurant carries the beers from the next- door Aqula Brauhaus and had a good rep for food. It was not crowded, but the fact that half of the town was packed into the castle grounds for the peak of Cherry Blossom time may have had an influence! We ordered pizzas. They were just the right size, and they used a lot of cheese, which I like. Sometimes the picture of the item looks great and then when you get it, you ask yourself, âdid they forget the cheese?â Not here. The other ingredients on the pizzas were very good, and tasty. We tried several of the brews from Aqula and they were good, very respectable. They have won some good awards, and it shows. The restaurant and the brewery are closely associated, if not run by the same owner(s).The service was very good and personable. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. There is a lot of dark wood, including big wooden beams in the main dining room, and the theme of the décor is German, but itâs well done, not kitschy.Outdoors there are tables, which I think are served by the brewery and restaurant in good weather.
I've been there many years ago.. The owner knows lots of jazz almost like encyclopedia . Very friendly owner wife and husband. Lovely beautiful ..It's not far from AKITA train station. You could walk through Senshu park .. about 15-20 minutes depend of your interested on Akita. Akita is a small city. Sadly the main streets are kind of dead due to more family owning cars and no much parking place in mid town unless you pay. Anyhow this Rondo is one of the legend!!

This brew pub is situated between Kawabatta âDori and Akarenga-Dori, not far from Chuo- Dori and tucked behind other buildings. You wonât find it if you are not looking for it. It seems to be associated with next- door restaurant Platz, which seems to be a bit more upscale.Aqula is how they call it (Akura if you take the Hiragana literally.) They brew four kinds of beer downstairs and serve it upstairs along with decent but not fancy food. I tried all four brews and found them to be good. I had a Caprese salad and a pizza Margherita. It was a bit late- season for the tomatoes in the salad and the Mozzerella was not like you would get in Milano, but it was tasty enough. The pizza was excellent, really fine taste and a good accompaniment to the beers (isnât it supposed to be the other way round?)The room is very cosy and Gemütlich in a way thatâs hard to find in Japan. It is not all that large, so reserve a space if you are not going early. In fine weather, there are plenty of tables outside, under trees, and with the surrounding buildings it must be very quiet, no road noise. Service was excellent. The brewmaster and his assistant studied in Germany and returned to bring craft beers to Akita. They have succeeded. The waitstaff engaged me in a long and pleasant on- and- off conversation between waiting the other tables as I was at the bar and on my own. Very kind of them, and a nice chat in broken English, German and Japanese (it was my Japanese which was broken.)
