I last visited this pub in the late seventies. This lunchtime excursion was suggested by friends who are regular customers at the Novar. The lay out inside has changed but really it is the same pub from years ago, but good. The staff were lovely and the menu is outstanding. I recommend a booking in advance because it is mega busy. The food was very good, served hot, fresh and on hot plates if relevant. No complaints by any body and almost clear plates but the portions were âbelly bustersâ so watch out but they do a smaller portion too.Very enjoyable pub grub and great value for money.

A homely wee neighbourhood bar/restaurant serving up food from 10 till 10 and drinks till 1am:) Culinary hugging people since July 2007
As previously the food was outstanding but if our waitress had ever been trained she has forgotten more than she ever remembered! We arrived to allocated table, with menus, we selected our wine and our food....the waitress remembers that at 4pm there is a change of menu and they have not been changed. We ask for a jug of water and it does not arrive, we ask for three macaroni, two with bacon as a side....we get one....we ask for two cappucinos and get one ....we ask for the bill three times and have to go chasing it......how sad that a brilliant eating place allows this non service experience to be its more memorable feature. Let's get the act togetherHi there and thanks for the review. Long story short, we have been on the search for a new floor staff member and you were served by the one we we trialling. She never cut the mustard and never got the job and apologies you had the very small window to experience this. Hope you'll be back for a much more of the same when the act is most definitely back together!

Just had a fabulous meal at the starbank inn in newhaven, leith, Edinburgh. Michelle, the assistant manager, explained when we arrived that they were very busy and we may have to wait a while before they could take our order. We were okay with that, and in fact did not have to wait anywhere near as long as they said. This could be because the waitress, Natalie, runs around like a wee fire brand!! With a lovely cheery smile and warm and welcoming attitude. We loved it, and the meal when it came was well worth the wait. Highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back. Thanks for the great comments Linda, The girls are fab and will be delighted to be "mentioned in dispatches"Hope we see you again soon. Thanks again for taking the time to leave us this feedback about your recent visit. Take care!

This quaint little pub is just fantastic! The fish and chips were crispy, airy and succulent. The chips were real chips and were delicious. The servings are huge but they will prepare them in halves for two seperate meals, at no extra cost. Prices are super reasonable but tables are limited. The service is impeccable and the drinks and staff are great! A good little pub on the Main Street. Highly recommended.

Visited here today and waited a while for drinks to be served ,, I am a lover of Indian cuisine and after reading the glowing reviews decided to give it a try ,, food was bland , chicken was pink and not very nice at all . korma looked like chicken was just put in a creamy tomato soup .. I was very disappointed and shall not visit again in a hurry.. stAff need to be a little more observant to glasses being empty than asking how the food is relatedly, I had to refrain from being brutally honest and was polite and smiled but am sure they knew by what was left of the portions .and my pet hate was the starters were in plastic dishes whilst the mains come out in a soup bowl not a serving dish .. these little touches for me are important . Overall wasnât the worst I have tasted but defo wonât visit again any time soon

Been here a couple of times to eat, as it's close to my girlfriend's flat.Today, we were in for breakfast. My girlfriend, ordered a Scottish breakfast & I ordered a roll in veg sausage & potato scone.Unfortunately, they were out of veg sausage, but the lovely server, offered me alternatives. The food is top class, for a pub & the staff are consistently nice, which makes for a good environment. There's a good selection on the menu & the prices are great too.The game changer, would be if there was a vegan selection! :)The beer gardens a nice touch as well as being owe to the train station.Hi Karen S,Thanks so much for your great review! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us today and that we managed to find a suitable alternative for your breakfast! We will definitely take on board your feedback regarding vegan breakfast options and hopefully we will see some vegan options on our next menu change. Donât forget, we have our vegan menu running from 12pm daily. Kind regards

My wife and I had lunch at this restaurant last weekend.First impressions, were good, the building looked clean and inviting. The bar was also warm and cosy with a stone fireplace in the centre of the room. The restaurant portion of the bar was not being used for lunch.Meet and greet, was fine and friendly with no delay. We were asked where we would like to sit, shown to our table, menus presented, specials explained and drinks order taken.Menu. Typical pub fayre. Various good looking deals available on a daily basis. We chose the curried parsnip soup, haddock and chips, and ploughmans lunch.Service, food and drink arrived promptly, but a mistake was made with my wife's order, and she ended up with a ploughmans sandwich, she, however was fine with this, but we informed the waitress who checked our bill, and then informed the girl who took and placed the order. She came over and apologised. Matter closed. Dealt with well.Food, the soup was gorgeous, and my wife really enjoyed the sandwich. My battered fish was ok, with the batter being a bit pasty, and the chips seemed like deep fried oven chips, but the mashed peas were lovely and sweet.Overall, value was good, with 3 courses, and 3 drinks for £30. I have given it a 3 but we would certainly want to return.

Friendly helpful staff, good food, pleasant surroundings.
Burntisland is devoid of anywhere for evening meals....pizza or ice cream as an evening option not the best.. And that's it for the High Street. Went to this venue and as ravenous was lured by the authentic curry claim.. So ordered the chicken curry... Which arrived in under 5 mins.. So obviously a micro wave job.. On arrival, no steaming dish and the balti type container was cold to the touch, and sure enough the meat was tepid and drowned in an almost inedible salty muck! To be fair the waitress asked how bit was and after owning up I was given a 50% discount on the food order.. But you only get one chance to make a good first impression, and this was awful... Won't be back. Sorry you didn't enjoy your meal. At the point the waitress checked back you made her aware that the curry was not hot enough. We apologised for this and offered to get a fresh curry made. We discounted your meal 50% as we took your word that it was not hot enough for your liking however as you ate every last drop and did not mention it was vile we didn't go any further. Rest assured we do not microwave our curry and like all our dishes it is made in house from scratch. Once again sorry you never enjoyed our curry, it is one of our most popular dishes although we fully appreciate that taste is entirely subjective..
