As a couple of others have noted this is odd this is at number 1, we arrived 11.50 and told they werent serving food, when we asked when they could they said 12pm so we insisted we sit and wait for kitchen to open. other customers turned up after us and their order was taken before ours, there was no local bread just as another review says. and the menu only had 4 options. food was very average im afraid. dont go here expecting an amazing dining experience.

Traditional island food from the most mouthwatering Bolo de Caco, which we went back for twice, good espetada and good fish and sea fish. The nice comfortable atmosphere, hosts who were open and friendly and giving us hints and tips about where to go and which the best Mass on Christmas Eve would be the best for our elderly companion, all made for a very pleasant dining experience. And the passionfruit mousse ...... wonderful.

This place totally surprised me. We stopped here Sunday for lunch. The food, service and prices were excellent, very impressed and those that know my blog will know I criticise a lot of places on the island. Defiantly in my top list of Restaurants to eat on Madeira. Well done to the owners and keep up the good work, I will be back soon ...

The restaurant was absolutely buzzing with locals - always a good sign! The buffet was €5 per person and there was an excellent choice of salads, meat and potatoes. We really enjoyed our lunch here and though the staff were friendly and courteous.

We stopped here on a tour and had a set menu with wine included. The soup was bland and needed seasoning but pan fried sole was excellent and served with boiled potatoes and salad. The wine was plentiful with a choice of red or white or a soft drink. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Who would think that this kind of pastry/bakery shop would make such a delicious cake? This is not an offensive question, but accustomed to see the type of pastry/bakery shops in Funchal, and as I did know where to buy a cake for my husband's birthday day when we were travelling around in Boaventura, when I asked the receptionist of the hotel where could I buy a birthday day,she didn't falter and told me "you must go to Pastelaria Calhau in São Vicente". And, wow...once we get in it is not the kind of shop you would fall in love by the color of the room or it's furniture, tables and chairs,but...once you try their cakes and cookies, you will get stucked to it! First thing my husband said "oh my god, it's so delicious! Where did you buy the cake? In Funchal ?". And then I explained him... we bought homemade cookies the day after, almond with sugar cane cookies... super delicious!Super recommend this pastry/bakery shop.

We sat by the window, overlooking the magnificent scenery. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, especially when it came to the wine, as we know very little about wine from Portugal. The food was very good, although the side dishes were a little bit ordinary. We had the espetadas, grilled to perfection! The view from the restaurant cannot be compared to anywhere else. It’s breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit, not high-end gourmet food, a bit more expensive than similar restaurants, but the view is worth it!

A simple, friendly and cosy restaurant with a rustic feel, where the food is prepared with love and passion. Honest and simple dishes with our "touch". As we use to say: "it's our own dinning-room were customers are friends". PLEASE NOTE: we don't accept
Been here lately after checking tripadvisor. Most reviews raving this place, my expectations were huge, as I love typical restaurants and local food.I rarely give poor or average reviews, because I search carefully before heading any place. This time I was wrong and regret.... it was one of the worst experience I had during my week in Madeira.Found later that this place used to be one of the best restaurants in Madeira, after moving to a different management. The former owner was ill and sold the business. That's why you see some really bad reviews posted recently and excellent reviews posted a while ago.The prices are not expensive, I would say regular for Madeira, but not exactly cheap for what you eat. There are no sea views, on opposite to all other restaurants around. The food is very average, and I recommend skipping the octopus dishes, very sticky and chewy, not properly cooked. Note that they don't accept credit cards. Either bring cash or find an ATM somewhere. Staff is friendly. Avoid checking the ladies WC...I would rather having lunch in Porto Moniz where I was minutes earlier, or even heading back to Funchal to find somewhere else to have lunch.Enjoy the beautiful Madeira and it's lovely people and the food.
