Maria Pic-nic its a family-friend take away restaurant that creates unique and traditional Azorean picnics for you to take-away and enjoy at your own leisure. Picnics are a popular practice in the Azores. Our nature has unforgettable places for picnics, s
First day we were scheduled for a pic nic in the Sete Cidades area by the lake and it was raining, but she found the only covered picnic spot and is was a magical place in a moss covered forest by the beautiful lake. Then oh my what a spread of local Azorean delicacies we had never had before, pineapple and bean pastry, tuna stuffed deviled eggs, the king of cheeses, fava beans and spicy chorizo, cinnamon bread, so much more and local line. Then the next day we met her at the Ponta Delgado market, picked out fish, beef, herbs, veg, potatoes, cheeses, then went to her new house in Fenais de Luz for a cooking class. We toured her new fabulous garden, made a lunch of all Azorean specialties, like Abrogado fish soup and a fish and potato stew, beef with cinnamon and chorizo, rice pudding and more. Sampled liqueurs, made by her parents. Felt like we were eating at a friends house. This was so special, best experience of our whole Portugal trip.I highly reccomend Maria for whatever you are looking for in the culinary department!Thank you so much for charing your time in the Açores with me. It was a pleaseur to have you in my house, where i could listen to your beautifulls stories.I wish you all the best!Maria

If you want to play the mysterious fish weight vs portion unknown cost game; go here... no menu, pick fish of a board as you walk in feeling slightly deceived and confused by your waiter over portions and fish types, sit at a table with tiny windows and a slight glimpse of the sea past the drinks fridge, TV on and radio blaring in the corner. Get bill and realise the whole fish you bought is in fact 2 portions... not 1 as it is conveyed on the board... see other similar reviews in this thread. Whilst the fish was ok, misleading customers does not work in the long run... youâre better off at cervejaria cascata nearby where honesty prevails...

Great pub with local food and international food. Craft burgers and sandwiches, salads as well. Patio with charcoal grill fresh local fish and meats.
Difficult to praise it enough. Visited first of all for drinks, friendly welcome and good choice of drinks at very reasonable prices. Owner/ manager arranged for us to watch the Toon obliterate man u, with again excellent service. We followed up the next night with meals, steak and tuna which were perfectly cooked and seasoned, an absolute delight!!.

Climb in your rental car, trust Siri, and make the drive. We had roast octopus and a chorizo omelet. Watched the guy across the street fish volcanic mud out of a stream. The octopus was first rate. The drive on cobblestones through cow pastures was a hoot. The air is a bit sulfury, but thatâs where you are. Will check out the spa across the street for the volcanic mud massage. Prices are similar to USA.

Alabote was a nice stop for an early dinner in Ribeira Grande. Its a busy waterfront/beach area but Alabote was a great Oasis. The fish was nicely prepared and the service was good. We enjoyed the outdoor patio.Thank you for your review. We're glad you liked your experience in our restaurant. We hope to see you again!Best regards,Alabote Restaurant

Itâs an upscale eatery, the place to go for meat dishes after the daily fares of fish/seafood on the island. Truly a place for carnivores, huge servings of meat between 200g (7 oz) to 400g (14 oz). The morcella con ananas starter was terrific, smoky black pudding with fresh pineapple. We then had Bife pimientas perfectly cooked served with brandy sauce, and the hamburguesa associacao perfect grilled medium, bread less serve with two sunny side eggs, grilled slightly hot pepper, grilled garlic cloves and thin sauce. Both went so well with two reserva wines. Finish off with espressos. Great service. Very inexpensive.

Beach Bar/Restaurant
It's the most famous beach bar in Ribeira Grande. But certainly no tourist trap.We took the stuffed mushrooms as appetizer. They where very nice! As diner we took the famous limpets(lapas) and the steak-burger between a local flat bread. (Chef's choice). Nothing to complain about. Service and prices for food are good.Prices for cocktails are a little bit high for Azores. And when you serve a Dry Martini.. make it the original way with olives, not with orange zest!

In 1979, Carlos Tavares Silva, owner of Current Restaurant The SILVA opened a brewery space serving drinks and snacks on the ground floor and meals on the 1st floor. It was later attached a contiguous land, sealed the slabs and covered with criptoméria fo
Polite, professional, attentive staff.Ordered tuna (well done) and it came out completely raw in the middle. However, alternative meal was tasty. Bread and chips weren't the best we'd had in Ribeira Grande. Interior was very smart and polished.Overall a pleasant dining experience.

In this wonderful location, overlooking the sea and looking at the wonderful North coast of the island of São Miguel from Ribeira Grande, we have created for you a unique regional menu, such as the Fish Stew made inside the Volcano.
Good location, dining on a balcony with a sea view. Short menu, albeit not remarkable. We ordered the 4-piece sample appetizer(4Q), which turned to be olives, quality eggs, a pork pate and guess whatâtiny packs of butter!!! Since when is butter an appetizer? â Bread was extra 2Euros!!! We ordered the 3-fish special for two. It was suppose to be served with hollandaise sauce but, no, we were served melted butter. While the fish were grilled well, the side vegs was the iceberg lettuce that I detest (useless veg without nutrients) and the a bowl of boiled potatoes. For the price, even for the Azores, we could have a better dinner elsewhere. In shortâ-NOT recommended.Hello @globetrottingYankee! We value every review and we thank you for sharing your opinion. We're happy the fish was great, we naturally want to give every customer the best possible experience but we understand that we cannot satisfy everyone. For instance, we would like to have known that you detested that specific lettuce, we would have changed it for something more of your preference. Please visit us again so that we can show you why we have so many positive reviews.

We had several times dinner in this fancy restaurant. The menu card is an iPad,You can choose yourself the language. Every evening there are different choices for fish and shellfish, meat (pork, lamb, beef, goat and even rabbit) and even a good choice in vegetarian dishes. You make your choices and this is directly send to the kitchen. Service was amicable and quick but with poor English knowledge. All the dishes we tried were at least as good as expected, the rabbit is a real recommendation.
