Portuguese Restaurants in Kearny, New Jersey right on Kearny Avenue. Also has a bar inside.
Going back a few years, this place was definitely above average in food/price/service. Over the years, it has lost its edge and become nothing special to visit. Food/specials, although some still good, just arenât what they used to beâ¦however, sangria is definitely still better than others in area. As now mostly a local bar crowd, the patrons themselves need a reworking in both attire and language skillsâ¦too many sloppily dressed and way too many curse words spoken at bar, which are heard throughout as area such a small place. I would not consider atmosphere to be family friendly.

It been quite a few years since I've been here and have always enjoyed it,however last visit was less then steller. The fresh bread and garlic dipping oil was great, enjoyed the sangria. But all four of our meals arrived only warm, not hot.1 piece of my chicken and garlic sauce was tough and uncooked.Steaks okay not great. Not going to write it off yet,but was disappointed.

This place has the best food. I really like the Shrimp in Garlic. This is really only shrimp, garlic and olive oil. The best as an appetizer. Then I get the shrimp in wine sauce. A great dish that comes out sizzling. Highly recommended.

First they were right on time with our reservation on a busy Friday evening. Immediately showed attention. Javier, our waiter, was excellent. A group of four for dinner. I had the Bitoque a âPortuguesaâ for the first time and it was quite good. Two of the others had filet mignon on the roof tile and it was amazing. The potatoes and all were very good. Of course, we must order sangria, and it was excellent - $27 for a large pitcher, not sure if bargain or not, but very good. Although we did not have dessert, it was very extensive. We hung out at the bar after and there was plenty of elbow room and friendly tenders. Thanks

Had a long leisurely lunch with an old colleague. I had one of the lunch specials, the Paella Valencia. Very good. Lots of seafood, Spanish sausage and a half of a lobster tail. Huge portions. Plan on leaving with a doggie bag. The bread was delicious. Excellent service. On site parking lot. Accessibility ramp. The only negative thing that I can say, if it is a negative--they wouldn't let me package my own leftovers. Said that it was't allowed. This is the first time that I have encountered this. I prefer to put my leftovers in the container myself. They were nice about it though. They didn't rush us and let us stay as long as we wanted. I definitely would go again. It's worth a visit.

This restaurant is great for special events and meals with friends, yet equally comfortable to take a seat alone at the cute bar and have a pot of fresh cockles with plenty of fresh bread to dip in the sauce! The plates are huge and great for sharing! While I am not a meat-eater, friends rave about the selection and quality! The hardest choice for me is red or white sangria!

The Portuguese cuisine was expensive and average considering what one can find in Newark Iron Bond. To make the experience even worse after lunch with my spouse, is that I was charged a mandatory 15% tip without my authorization. I confronted the waiter who had nothing to say. I sent an instant message to their Facebook page. No response whatsoever.

First off, nice ambiance and a great wine list! It is loaded with a fabulous selection of Spanish wines. Pleasantly surprised. Lots of options on the menu. We started off with some clams to share that were really flavorful and perfectly done. For our entrees we ordered a paella and suckling pig. Both huge portions but both also dry...very dry. Was expecting better. Expensive.I'm glad you appreciated our extensive wine list. It's wonderful you enjoyed the clams as well. As for the entrees, I'm sorry you weren't as impressed there. I look forward to the next opportunity we get to earn another star or two from you.Sincerely,Andres, Manager
