Custom cake shop & coffee shop. Pastries, cupcakes, cookies available at any time. From espresso to macchiatos, we have it all!
Bottom LineIâm reviewing based on stopping in for breakfast, not for cake. This place reminds me on those no nonsense cafes in Europe. Come in, have a cappuccino, or an espresso, a pastry, or an egg sandwich on a Portuguese Roll. Excellent Empanadas as well. A bacon, egg and cheese, a Taylor, egg and cheese, a pork empanada, two coffees, and three empanadas to bring home. $20. Iâll be back.DetailsWe live in town. We were walking by and saw a sidewalk sign that said this cake bakery served breakfast, specifically egg sandwiches. We were hungry, and there you have it. Glad we came by. Egg sandwiches are fun. Itâs just an egg, some meat (or not) and some cheese. And then you have the bread. On the wrong roll, the experience is ruined. On the right roll, egg sandwich satisfaction. A nice crusty Portuguese roll encloses crispy meat and a perfectly cooked over easy egg (yes, thatâs the way I ordered it. I love the way it squirts when you take the first bite, and then you have something to dip the sandwich in). The yolks of the eggs were dense and bright orange, and tasted like an egg should. The coffee was a classic euro brew, sturdier than standard diner fare. I guess thatâs my point. You wonât find Stuffed French Toast or a Chocolate Chip Pancakes on the menu here. You wonât have to make a choice between grande and venti or Ethiopian or Jamaican. You will get a great cup of dark roast coffee with a variety of classic Portuguese pastries (and empanadas). An unpretentious streetside café where you can watch them make beautiful cakes (once again, I havenât eaten them yet), and a delicious egg sandwich on a great roll. Cake Artist Cafe has the potential to be a great stop for commuters to catch a quick espresso and a custard cup before hitting the train to the city. Iâll be back. You should go. This is a find in Cranford. Get some tables outside, and you'll be a hit.
