We had to wait more than an hour to get our main course. The entradas were put on the table quickly but could not keep us busy for this long time and the wine was already more than half way when we got the main course. Another thing that bothered us seriously was that several people were smoking during lunch. The waiter was very friendly and apologetic. When the main course finally arrived it was delicious! The porco preto (tiranhas and plumas) was succulent, the French fries thin and crispy. This positive turn reconciled us with the fact having chosen to enter this restaurant. To apologize for the delay, we got a complementary drink at the end of the meal. The waiter told us that the delay was due to new people in the kitchen and was not standard! Let us hope because the food was excellent and with a regular timing and without cigarette smoke this would be an excellent restaurant.

Cosy and friendly place, based on local food traditions. We found it particularly interesting the habit of serving soup as a starter. Very crispy french fries. Delicious steaks. Highly recommended! We'll be back!

Restaurant specialized in grilled rabbit, offering also chicken, pork ribs and quail.
The setting is simple and so is the food. Quail and rabbit with fries and a simple salade. No menu. Washed away with a local red spakling wine it's enjoyable enough. The bill is also a treat at the end as prices are pleasantly low for the average Northern European

We have eaten here several times over the last few years when visiting Portugal and the food, service and ambience are always excellent. Today four of us had lunch at Taberna do gaio and it was fantastic. I had the grilled Sea Bass with vegetables. We also ordered the grilled squid, bacalhau and skewer of veal and house wine All the meals were delicious and we were served by a young man who was friendly and spoke English well. This place is definitely worth a visit when in the Cartaxo region.

I came here to try one of traditional Portuguese food, "Stone Soup" in weekend. I got there around 2pm for lunch, a bit late time, but it was still crowded with people for family lunch. There's potato, bean, pork, chourico and coriander in soup. Soup was pretty big for two people but we finished all, and we tried grilled bacalhau with potato and mangusto(mashed bread with bean and cabbage) as well. I felt like home-cooked from them. Muito bom!

A truly dissapointing experience, while the food was OK and the place very nice the service was shocking. The waiters were completely disinterested in the diners, they brought our wine and forgot to open it, they took forever to come when called and then looked as if we were bothering them for service. They forgot to bring one of our dishes, I had to urge them more than once to finally get it after most of our party finishes eating. This is one of the most expensive restaurants around this area thus one would expect a good experience all round, unfortunately we were very very dissapointed and we have noticed that guests at another table weren't impressed either, not a good day in the life of Restaurante Taxo.

It's a great restaurant. However, we went early for dinner there, because I had checked on Facebook, Google Maps, even on the restaurant's site, etc, that the restaurant supposedly was always Open. We arrived there a bit before 7 pm and we decided to wait a bit. When the clock struck 7, I rang the bell and to my surprise I was informed that it only opened at 7:30. Although the wait was worth it, the truth of the matter is the information concerning opening and closing is not true wherever you search.
