This waterfront restaurant may only have plastic chairs but mid afternoon on a Sunday, outside a traditional meal time, it was quite busy with locals. Anywhere in the world I take this to be a good sign because of the likelihood that many are repeat diners. My pizza took half an hour to arrive but was worth it.Staff were friendly and the place was clean.Pleasant views across the strait towards Cebu City.

Elijah's Pizzaria and Grill

It's the first pizza house in Ormoc to serve New York-style pizzas. Most pizzerias here, except those of Greenwhich, has thin crusts which can be boring sometimes. My personal favorite and one that you should try is the Meaty Man and Hawaiian. We also ordered the Chicken on the Ranch variety and it tastes good too.One thing that bothers me about Elijah is their pricing. A 9" pizza cost 140 pesos while the 12" one costs 250 pesos and an 18" may 500+. As a customer, I would rather buy two 9"s and spend a few more bucks instead of buying one 12" or two 12"s instead of buying an 18".But nevertheless, Elijah's Pizzaria is like a "breath of fresh air" when it comes to pizzerias in Ormoc.

As travelers, we usually go for the local restos to try the local foods of the place we're visiting. I did just that but seeing that there aren't much foodie options in Ormoc, I ended up eating at fastfood joints that are pretty much common in Manila. As expected, you can never go wrong with Greenwich Pizzas. The place is also conveniently located at the heart of the city.

Shakey's Tacloban

Reviewed By rick3011

Ordered a set that included chicken, mojos (potato wedges) and a managers choice pizza. It was served promptly enough. The chicken was average, edible but nothing great. The Mojos were sparce, in fact when we asked we were told 5 Mojos per order. Thats counting potato wedges?!. How cheap can u be, if your counting them all then I want them all the same size and all the large size. Not the overtired crispy end!. I mean really, it's nearly 900 php and your counting Mojos. The pizza itself was very ordinary. I was sitting here looking at all the delicious looking pizza choices in the menu and I'm served some uninspiring thin disc with some Capsicum, insipid pieces of ham and some ground beef. Taste was not pleasant and the pizza wasn't finished. I wont bother with Shakeys again, if you like to count, then count your empty seats instead of your Mojos. I'm going to SBarrow instead.

Canto Fresco

Reviewed By jempe

I LOVE CANTO FRESCO! Here are the reasons why.FOODI love their food. I can't quite describe the theme of their menu. It's more of Mexican/Italian, I'm not sure. Most of their food are great like pizza, main courses and appetizers. Their main courses are for sharing and are usually served with rice and salad. Below are my favorites:Manic Meatballs - six very large meatballs great for sharing;Pesto Pork Steak - two pork steaks with a very delicious pesto sauce;Pesto Cheese Rolls - this is my favorite, the pastry is so soft and ugh, the cheese is to die for;Bacon N' Garlic pizza - just divine!Lemon Lime Pitcher - my favorite drink at Canto, a combination of the right amount of acidity and sweetness.I've tried their pasta but unfortunately, I didn't like it. This is the only reason why I couldn't give this review a five star. This is only my preference. Some people might like the taste of their pasta and perhaps I'm just not used to it.LOCATION/AMBIANCE/INTERIORSThe restaurant has a rustic theme that feels strangely homey. They also have outdoor seating which is always a plus. Inside the resto is a bit crammed but tolerable. It's almost like a hole in the wall kind of place.SERVICEThe service needs a bit of improvement. I personally do not have any problems with it but my dad thought that the staff were slow and slightly not receptive.PRICE/VALUEThe price points of Canto's dishes are slightly above average. It might seem pricey for others but seriously, one main course could feed two to three people so I think the prices are worth it. Almost everything is good. I used to come to Canto every week but I realized I would lose all my extra cash there. Haha. That's how good this resto is.Definitely try this place!

Giuseppe's Italian-Filipino

Reviewed By mwcowan

My wife has business that brings us to Tacloban every few months; this was our second visit to Giuseppe’s. From the first time we remember an excellent pizza and puttanesca, as well as an enjoyable chat with the owner who also introduced his wife and son Giuseppe, the namesake of the restaurant. On this trip there was no doubt we were going back, and it didn’t disappoint.Tonight we ordered calamari and a Caesar salad as appetizers. Let’s just say I don’t like calamari but this may have been the best I’ve tried - crispy, not greasy at all, very fresh and tender. Maybe this could finally get me interested. The Caesar salad was delightful. I think I can count on two fingers the times I’ve had house made Caesar dressing which is a creation of olive oil, egg yolks, anchovies, salt and pepper, not the creamy mayonnaise-y stuff that comes in bottles. This on crisp lettuce with croutons and Parmesan is a simple and perfect salad. For entrees we chose baked lasagna and chicken Milanese. The lasagna was excellent, my wife exclaimed that this was what she wished she could make. Simple sauce, gooey cheese, perfect pasta. The chicken was moist and tender, garnished with a creamy sauce with fresh mushrooms and just a touch of marsala.Yes I admit I’m an American who loves Italian food and craves different cuisines after a while in the Philippines, but I honestly feel Giuseppe’s is as good or better than any I’ve had in America, and right up there with the cuisine I’ve experienced in Italy. Bravo!
