Hartbeespoort, informally also known as "Harties", is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The name of the town means "gateway of the hartbees" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans. It was previously known as Schoemansville, named after General Hendrik Schoeman, a Boer General in the Anglo-Boer War, who owned the farm that the Hartbeespoort Dam was built on.

Gem of the Bushveld, is just that, a gem. Not fancy shmancy or OTT, but a relaxing family run venue that specializes in good pizzas and home cooked meals. The variety is hit and miss, depending on the day, with daily specials on offer in limited quantities. Depending on how busy the place is, determines the service. The busier, the longer you may wait for your food, as everything is cooked from fresh. The decor is rustic and it has a rural feel about it. If fine dining is your thing, then Gem is not for you. If you enjoy a great thin base pizza with generous toppings, then this one is for you. The place is filled with local characters who bring their own charm to the country feel of the outdoors. Prices are reasonable and beer is cold.

Apr 24 lunch: This is a resturant next to the ticket window. It's quite a big place with seating inside and outside. It was quite pleasant and we ended up seating outside. The views are really good seating outside. They also have a small play area for kids. The biker's breakfast was well made and presented well. The veggie pizza was very good. The base was quite crisp and the cheese was well spread. Even the kiddie margerita pizza was good. The veg penne pasta was a bit of a let down - not flavourful and even the pasta seemed undercooked. The pasta was quite cold and we had to ask for a reheat. One of the must have is the chip and dip basket. The chips were quite crisp and not soggy. There were 3 dips - the one with pepper was just superb, another dip was with mushroom and was good. The third one was plain cheese and wasn't enjoyable. The service was quite good at some times and a bit down some times. They have an outlet at the top of the cableway as well but they only serve pizzas. Overall, good food but service could be better.

Food is good value for money and the best pizza in town for sure, And love their deals. The Pizzas are thin base and prepared in a wood burn oven. Great atmosphere.

We went for dinner last night.Overall we had a great time, the live entertainment William Blackrose was very entertaining. My son built his own pizza and the Manager Sbu was very attentive. Well done to Sbu for your dedication. -5âï¸rating for managers on floorThe kids were thirsty most of the night due to the great kids play areas -5âï¸ for kids play areaOn the negative side, drink took on average 20 minutes to get which in normal standards is a 2âï¸ rating. My poor kids were so thirsty most of the evening- great play area results in hydration needed.The waffle was so dry we couldnât eat it.
