Find out what Pizza restaurants to try in Bagan. Bagan (Burmese: ပုဂံ; MLCTS: pu.gam, IPA: [bəɡàɴ]; formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, the first kingdom that unified the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2,200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

I was a bit unsure about visiting this place as it seemed to be frequented by tour groups, so my preconceptions were that it would probably be efficient but atmosphereless, but it was close to my hotel and I was tired from a day's cycling round temples so I tried it. How wrong I was! It took a long time to get my order taken, and I was only seen off the back of the Spanish girls at the table next door clicking and waving until someone came to see to them. My drinks came quickly, but no glass for the litre of water until 25 minutes later. My food turned up after over an hour: inidan chapatti set with onion bhaji and chickpeas consisting of myanmar lentil soup (nice), clear soup (didn't try it), myanmar vegetable curry (tasteless), some okra (tasteless), onion salad and two extremely oily chapattis. No bhaji. I'd also ordered some spinach which arrived after I'd finished what I was going to eat of the other food. Usually I don't mind my food turning up at different times, but as this was now over 1.5 hours after ordering I sent it back.

The male staff is the great plus in this place, friendly attentive and chatting with the customers. The Italian style food is average, In most cases, only the name can be inferred from the Italian character of the food.

We ordered some pumpkin ravioli and a mushroom pizza. The pizza was like a big soft wet cracker with no flavour at all, and a very small portion, with hardly any cheese, sauce or mushrooms. My ravioli was very sloppy and so flavourless that I had to empty half the salt shaker onto it. We also had a caprese salad which is literally just chopped tomatoes and imitation mozzarella and some basil.. not that amazing. Definitely don't go here for the western food!

After a few weeks travelling in Asia it was a very welcome change. Being curious about a real Pizza in Myanmar we were trying The Pizza 2 Restaurant in Bagan. What a surprise - the pizza was just excellent! Thin pasta base and nice toppings. We felt like beeing in Italy. Bill & Karin, Switzerland

Honestly this is the best service I have had anywhere in the world! Very proffesional and attentive waitress, spoke English and Japanese (we had a mixed group of people) and was so concerned with our experience. The food was very nice and well worth the âextraâ money. Totally recommend this place.
