Find out what Peruvian restaurants to try in Tarapoto. Tarapoto is a commercial hub town in the San Martín Province of the San Martín Region or northern Peru. It is an hour by plane from Lima, in the high jungle plateau to the east of what is known as the selva baja (low jungle). Although Moyobamba is the capital of the region, Tarapoto is the region's largest city and is linked to the Upper Amazon and the historic city of Yurimaguas by a relatively well-maintained transandean highway, paved in 2008-9.

Altough the place has usually good food, my girlfriend and I had a horrible experience last time. My girlfriend spotted a nose hair on my plate a couple of minutes after it was served. I was disgusted and decided to go and pay for the drinks but they wanted me to pay for my plate also. They said to my face that the hair wasn't from the kitchen personal and that it was from my girlfriend. I said that I wouldn't pay for my plate and one of the waitresses said aloud that I wanted to leave without paying. Finally they called another guy and he said that it was ok and I shouldn't be charged for my plate. I'm giving one star because I could understand that sometimes things happen, but I would expect apologies and trying to make up for it rather than the service trying to embarrass me and offend me.
Vegan and vegetarian food, suitable for diets and post-diets. We are a cultural space that mixes healthy food, cultural activities, art exhibitions in a cozy and quiet environment. This space was enabled with recycled materials. We have a garden-orchard,
I went here on a solo visit while in Tarapoto I arrived at opening time so was first in, even though I was the only one it still had a nice atmosphere I really like the decoration of the place it is very chilled out. I had the veggie burger and fries which was really nice in a nice brown bread roll and nice and moist and full of flavour I also had an amazing salad which had the most interesting and tasty seasoning, highly suggest you try this. I managed to get to chat with the owners who also are the chefs and this is when a nice meal turned into a 5 star rating. The idea behind the restaurant is to fund an NGO to promote sustainable ecologicaly friendly agriculture and educate children and families in poverty in how to achieve the same (I probably have not done this justice). Anyone visiting Tarapoto should put this on their list not only to eat great and healthy food but to help the owners help the community. They also hold lovely meditation classes some mornings and some evenings.A very nice message, thanks a lot. It´s was very nice to speak with you and exchange experiences of life. It´s a pleasure for us to cook and exchange with our customers and friends. Thanks you to coming in Savia Madre. It is very difficult to have better chinese-peruvian food than the chifa of Lima, the capital (chifa is how peruvians call the chinese food and chinese food restaurants addapted to the limitations of local peruvian ingredients and few brought by chinese workers on the 19th century) But this is a nice surprise, few chifas out of lima have good food and this is one of them.

I didn't expected to find such a well chocolates' store. Really great bars and filled chocolates. Try "trufas" and "aguaymanto" (golden berry) ones

though this is not mainly an eatery or restaurant , it really offers a nice variety of appetizers, sandwiches and snacks to order and also good drinks. Moreover this place is really a local contemporary historic spot, its owner worked for years in the busy now gentrified Barranco area in Lima and from there he brought years ago the know-how of how to run a place where rock, drinks and fun meet daily. There are always live bands programmed for playing, drinks are generous and service fast (something some other places lack)

The food is very well presented and tastes very good, the portions are the perfect size to counteract the rich menu offering. Staff are formal and friendly.A couple of things they could have improved on are the service, the waiter did not have enough knowledge of the menu.Would definitely recommend and go back for more!Good morning dear costumer, we are thankful for your preference and comments, each feedback helps us to give you a better experience. We've had a ceviche and a salad which are simple dishes for a Peruvian restaurant. They were good but they didn't have lots of things we wanted like shrimps, avocado, local beer (only cusquena). Rustic place but in general it was a good experience.

I had nothing but great experiences at Chalet Venezia. As a vegetarian, I am always looking for restaurants that serve vegetables. Unlike Cafe d'Mundo down the street, Chalet Venezia has several salads, and many are vegetarian. My favorite was the Mario Salad, which boasted (I think) garbonzo beans, elote (corn), hearts of palm, lettuce, and a number of other things. It was great, particularly with the homemade balsamic vinaigrette. The Spinach Lasagna was outstanding, creamy, cheese, and loaded with enough spinach to make Popeye's biceps burst. I also tried the quesadilla at the owner's suggestion. It was chock full of vegetables and far better than many anemic quesadillas that one often receives at purely Mexican restaurants. This was really good. I didn't get a chance to try the pizza because the oven collapsed the week prior to my arrival and it took several weeks for a new oven to be built and installed. I was gone before that project had been completed. The service at Chalet Venezia was above and beyond. All of the waiters remembered my name. The manager addressed me directly when I ordered the quesadilla spicy, as he feared that the local peppers would be too hot. They weren;t, but I appreciated the attention and the care for the food and the care for the patrons. Christian, the owner, was always quick to offer suggestions about hikes or his experience in the area. He also owns the French bakery next-door (La Mason du Pan).I would strongly recommend Chalet Venezia for Italian food, certainly for the Spinach Lasagna, for the quesadilla, for the salad, and for the service. In my estimation (as a non-meat-eater), it is likely one of the best restaurants in town, and far, far better than Cafe d'Monde down the street.

Found this place after failing to find Café D'Mundo due to poor Google map. Very nice ambient interior, away from traffic noise. Well trained staff, friendly lady in charge, beautifully cooked food - we had a mixed grill with both beef and chicken cooked to perfection. Not cheap, obviously, but not too expensive either.

I've been visiting restaurants in Taris (short way of calling tarapoto locals use) for almost 30 years now, about 20 years ago this restaurant named after a typical food cooked wrapping fish in bijao leaves (patarashca) opened as one more of many other places in town (almost each block you will find ladies selling food on the sidewalk in front of their homes). When going to this particular restaurant you may find twists on traditional local food that you will not find in other wonderful places you should visit for a fraction of the finer restaurant price (and sometimes much better preparation than the fancier places). As places grow in visitors numbers you may experience delays on attention or getting the bill or the change and being offered smaller portions for bigger prices. But there are always things that you will not find in other places (house specialties). In Patarashca a classic is the 'chonta salad' which you may find in 'Doña Zully' restaurant as well, but some other dishes are made only in this place like the pork chops in cocoa pulp (mucilage) Dear costumer,Thank you for your comment.Your comments will help us to improve a better service. We appreciate your visit. It's been a long road for us and great challenge to stay in the traditional gastronomic environment and even more to offer new culinary proposals based on local dishes. We are very sorry for the inconvinience of the delay. We will do our best to give you a better service and comfortBest Regards, La Patarashca Restaurante
