There were not many restaurant choices available in Thames at 4pm on a Sunday but the Bakehouse Cafe was open and looked busy. There was a good choice of sandwiches, pies and cooked meals. I chose a cooked option which was well presented and brought to my table. The Bakehouse Cafe is a friendly place and ideal for no-nonsense filling food and a good option in Thames.

A place where Mother Nature tickles your taste buds! Sample great home-style cooking, using fresh ingredients from the Coromandel; like Hauraki Flounder, Green Lipped Mussels and seasonal treats. Served in a tranquil setting surrounded by New Zealand flor
We enjoyed beautiful scones with gorgeous boysenberry jam and thick New Zealand cream. The scone was huge, the coffee delicious with a lovely thick creamy froth. Very enjoyable. The chef was very helpful and gave us great advice for the rest of our holiday . Worth driving here just for the scones and coffee. The gardens are amazing. The whole place had a wonderful atmosphere and peaceful ambience .

BEST FRESH OYSTERS IN THE WORLD!!!$18NZ for a dozen fresh oysters...the freshest of the fresh! The toppings are limited, but you really don't need to add anything more than a bit of lemon juice...PERFECTION! They also have hot sauce and vinegar if you like that sort of thing. And these are also the cheapest! If you do the math, that's only about 1 US dollar an oyster! Love it!$8 for the seafood chowder...rich and hearty, full of fish and mussels. Makes a great filling complement to the fresh oysters. This is just a little shack off the highway, nothing fancy, but I wouldn't want it anyway else. I think the oysters are harvested from the local waters just a few hundred meters away. It doesn't get any fresher, cheaper, or better than this.

Warm & friendly greeting, service with a beaming smile. Great meals here, with very generous servings. Seafood Chowder (oh my...yum), and the Garlic Mussels (rave, rave).Just because the outside looks like a pub does not mean the inside is just a pub. Chef here is amazing, as is the floor staff. This place deserves 10 out of 10. Very impressed.

We went here for dinner during our stay in Coromandel and found the food and the service great. My husband had pizza for dinner and said it was great - nice crispy base which is how he likes his pizza. I had beef cheeks - never had them before but would definitely order them again. They came with delicious mashed potatoes, and generous servings of green beans, asparagus and broccoli. I had creme brûlée for dessert and couldn't fault it. The other half was too full so had a small tub of ice cream instead. The following day we went back for lunch. I had a sausage roll and some fried potatoes with aioli. The potatoes were to die for but I struggled to finish the sausage roll as it had quite a lot of pesto inside. Husband had corn fritters and was pleased to see they arrived with bacon - he was a happy man! I finished with a slice of coconut and passionfruit cake with cream cheese icing - yum! Coffees were good too, nice and hot.Counter service at lunch time, but table service at night was excellent. Good wine list too.

On our second visit to enjoy some goodies of the sea from this restaurant, having been some time ago and having enjoyed what we had then.Really disappointed in the pot of Mussels, one kilo, mostly all shell with small withered up mussels, which gave one the impression they were re heated left overs from the day before, most certainly not what one was expecting. My good wife had the mussels chowder, now that was very nice indeed, recommend it.So we won one, last one, but will we ever go back again, maybe the chowder if we ever do.

Friendly and courteous staff eager to chat away and an awesome selection of food and coffee. Tried something a little different (Turkish breakfast with poached eggs, sourdough toast in a smoked chilli yoghurt - delicious!, see photo).
