Mamoun's Cafe is a mainstay on Washington Street, having been in business for many years. On a recommendation from a friend, we arrived on a Friday night at peak dining hour to find a nearly empty restaurant where the decor is a bit tired. As such, service was quick to take our order and our falafel appetizers arrived quickly. Honestly, the falafel was the highlight of the evening. These were well seasoned and the tahini sauce made these special. But, the entrees were disappointing. I ordered the couscous with an upcharge of $4 to include their lamb. The couscous served as the base of the dish, but was plain and unseasoned. The steamed seasonal vegetables were overcooked and mushy, and a single lamb patty, cut into four wedges, was the only protein to accompany the meal. By judiciously cutting the quarters into sixteenths, I was able to enjoy the combination in a single bit. Well, enjoy might not be the best term because, without the accompanying red sauce, the entree was a bit tasteless. Maybe it was the dish I ordered, because the restaurant rates well on Tripadvisor.

I had the chance to take my son and family to dinner. Aashiana is a family run restaurant with only a few tables. Service was interesting, with appetizers arriving at various intervals, but the entrees arrived together. The quality of the food was first rate, and spices more intense than you would find in a more generic Indian cuisine restaurant. Vindaloo had quite a good zing to it, and all entrees rich and flavorful. A great value for the price.

I was craving for Turkish eggplant dish.. and Kismet hit the spot amazingly..Started with shakshuka (eggplant, peppers, veggies in tomato sauce).. which was really good.. comes also with pita bread..I got the musakka (roasted eggplant with ground meat in clay pot topped with just a touch of melted cheese) which was so yummy..Our cuz got red lentil soup and trio appetizer sampler (babagannush, hummus and shaksuka) and she liked all of them..I canât go back to try other dishes.. Wish they also offer authentic Sunday Turkish breakfast...
