This unassuming restaurant just a few steps down from street level is one of the best Falafel etc. venues I've visited. The salads, falafel sandwiches in pita, and a broad variety of middle eastern dishes will delight the palate...and there's plenty of spice if you want it! Hummus Place also does a very active takeout business for locals as well. Highly recommended!

Many people tell me I'm difficult to please. My reply: Having high standards is a problem? Wanting my palate to be pleased is not a reasonable expectation? "Phooey!" I say! Thankfully, this establishment satisfies all that I expect and hope to experience while dining - this place is wonderful! Ambience, service, menu - all stellar. The offerings match the intended style - sophisticated rustic is how I'd describe it. Good ingredients should speak for themselves, not be dressed to provide a shiny-object distraction. Here, complimentary elements are creatively combined for a fresh and surprising illumniation within the dish. Reviewing the menu is a pleasing task in interpreting the well-written descriptions, allowing you to know exactly what to expect, imagining the result of such interesting combinations. So many enticing options - so my friend and I opted for the pre-theatre selections for our first try here. Her grilled squid was outstanding; my zucchini cakes very good. Our bronzino was spectacular - the side vegetables finished on the grill with mint and cilantro. Simple. Terrific. Dessert - does "I'll have what she's having!" ring a bell? We had to stifle our moans - the date sponge cake was absolutely amazing. Step away from ordinary, add this to your contacts and speed-dial it for a reservation. Seriously.

We have stayed in the area many times but somehow have missed this excellent restaurant until this trip. The location is very convenient, on 57th just off of 8th Avenue. The interior is pleasant and there are several tables for outdoor dining. We were there just at noon and were the first patrons but it was filling up by the time we left, and they seem to do a very large delivery or catering business. Their lunch special is a great deal for Manhattan; $15 and you can choose from quite a few starters or appetizers, then entrees and Turkish tea or American coffee. We had the shepherdâs salad and chicken shish kebab. The salad was large and delicious; the kebab was served with a good portion of tasty rice, red cabbage and tomato/greens. It was more than enough for lunch and we enjoyed the coffee/tea with baklava, the best Iâve had in a while. You get 3 rectangles and can choose either walnut or pistachio (we tried both, equally good!). Our service was excellent and the servers were friendly. All in all Iâm sure weâll be back the next time weâre in NYC.

We try to have brunch in NYC every couple of months to try new things and this place fit the bill. Made reservations but on a rainy Sunday not too many people out...which was good because the place is small, but you do not notice because of the great food. Sean was our waiter who helped us pick out a great fondue with truffle oil plus 2 shish kabobs plates each served with salad and potatoes. The chicken was great and so was the salmon . Bloody Mary's and wine rounded out our great brunch. Everyone left happy and full. Yum.
