My family and I visited this lovely little restaurant a few days ago. The setting is fresh and intimate. The staff are wonderful: welcoming, friendly and very helpful. There is a menu offering all kinds of tasty Syrian food at extraordinarily reasonable prices. We went for the vegetarian sharing platter for four; there is a vegan option as well. This allowed us to try lots of little dishes served up together on a kind of revolving platter. It was an ideal introduction to the sheer variety of food on offer. And everything was equally delicious. We had minty lemonade to accompany it and some delicious sweet meats to follow. Everything was perfect. We stayed for quite a while, just chatting, after we had finished everything. And throughout we felt perfectly relaxed and welcome. To top it all, the meal and everything else was an absolute bargain. Real value for money.

We are a small Syrian cafe restaurant. We offer home made vegan and vegetarian dishes. Take away is also available.
Out shopping in Colchester and stumbled on this gem. It's not big, or flashy. On the contrary a small menu of down to earth freshly cooked delicious and (I think) authentic Syrian food. The wrapped vineleaves were excellent as was the aubergine thing. We shared the large platter between two as I wanted to try everything. This is the most expensive on the menu at £12 - (for 2!), so well worth it. It didn't seem to have a licence for alcohol, but the Syrian Tea is well worth a try and the Turkish coffee looked and smelt awesome. Just one chap running it, so if it's packed (and it should be) you might have a wait. The Service is extremely polite and modest and he made us feel really welcome. it was a real pleasure to eat there at the basic but scrupulously clean wooden tables. Puddings like Baklava looked great. Prices are low (maybe for students), I hope it expands and I look forward to visiting again. For what it does and what it charges it is difficult to fault.I looked it up here on TA afrterwards and wasn't surprised to see the straight 5 star rating.

Newly opened restaurant/cafe. Arab mid Eastern menu. Shisha pipes too! Outside, of course, in the patio garden.
Iâve eaten at Albatta several times before and often order takeaways but thought Iâd add to my review now that Iâve been to a buffet they hold on Sundays. We thought it would be nice to try the buffet as it would give us a chance to try some bits we hadnât ordered before and we werenât disappointed. There was a âside barâ full of dips such as humous, baba ganoush etc and we were provided with fresh warm pitta which is excellent. There were plenty of main dishes to choose from such as meatballs, chicken and some vegetarian options too. The service was friendly, another good experience from one of Colchesterâs hidden gems.
