Things to do in Baghdad
Poor hygiene, delicious food, if you are high class type, you won't enjoy this restaurant, but if you like merging with people & learning their traditions, this restaurant may be one of your best experiences you'll ever have in iraq & especially among baghdadi people
Ahwak has become my go-to place for food in Baghdad. It has great, good quality food, generous portions, staff is extremely cordial and friendly, and I am yet to taste a dish I did not like, though their coffee needs improvement. Their breakfast buffet is great too. The only drawback (which is the case for most places in Baghdad) is that they allow smoking indoors.
I would normally assume that gold and glitz and marble are overcompensating for something. But the menu in this three-story palace is surprisingly varied for Baghdad and the food for the most part, very good. Syrian waiters add professionalism although there are not enough of them. Service was friendly and unpretentious. The salad needed to be fresher but a main dish of coconut shrimp that could have been very bad was really very good. Prices are not outrageous. Well worth the visit.
