Discover Restaurants offering the best Mexican food in Ventura, California, United States. Ventura, officially the City of San Buenaventura, is the county seat of Ventura County, California, United States. European explorers encountered a Chumash village, referred to as Shisholop, in Ventura while traveling along the Pacific coast. The eponymous Mission San Buenaventura was founded nearby in 1782 where it benefitted from the water of the Ventura River. The town grew around the mission compound and incorporated in 1866. The development of nearby oil fields in the 1920s and the age of automobile travel created a major real estate boom during which many designated landmark buildings were constructed. The mission and these buildings are at the center of a downtown that has become a cultural, retail, and residential district and visitor destination.

Ventura was our stopover en route to San Luis Obispo. We walked two blocks through to town and stopped at Limon y Sal because it looked the most appealing. We had a nice booth by the window where we could look out and see people walking by. We really liked the decor-very pretty inside. We ordered the âtaco tourâ and two margaritas. Both were delicious. We shared one order but it was large enough for four people. We somehow missed the description on menu that said âfeeds fourâ (at least the website describes it this way). Maybe the waiter thought we were big eaters? The meal was simple & deliciousâfour kinds of meat (carnitas, chicken, asada and al pastor. A vegan option is also available.) It is served with rice and beans w/a container full of the âstreet tacoâ sized tortillas. Itâs too bad we were traveling otherwise it would have been a treat to have the leftovers the next day! Weâll definitely be back!

Came for lunch and enjoyed it very much. The margarita wasn't sweet at all so I added a couple of limes and it was perfect. I had the waitress select my dish from 3 items I had wanted. She brought me the shrimp enchiladas with salad and sauteed veggies. I ate every bit because it was so good.

I walked into this restaurant hungry and expecting so-so chicken mole. I was blown away by the tastes. Theis mole is off-the-charts wonderful. The cilantro rice, airy, light and exquisitely flavored. I have been fortunate to sample mole around the world, but this, oh THIS mole, is by far my most favorite of all time. Service was charming, the food exquisite and I took as much of this mole home as I could carry. What a treat. What a find! I'll be back many, many, many times. By the end of the year, I expect to have my own table! :-)

Ok, where to begin? I tossed and turned whether to rate this place 3 or 4 stars. As far as the food is concerned, it is good. It's not the best but certainly above average (hence 4 stars). It's not like I don't like the place but would I come here with family and friends for a night of Mexican food...most likely not. This is more like a lunch place with good food and great customer service. The prices are slightly high for my taste but not a wallet breaker. Seating is very limited if it's during a rush hour and parking is extremely limited. This is obviously better than Mexican fast food or places like Yolanda's so please don't come with super high expectations but do expect a good meal.

A friend and I went downtown to a thrift store to find something we couldn't live without and on the way back we spotted Snapper Jacks. Now there are many taco restaurants around but this one had great Tacos. It was clean. and the service was fast. We sat close to the street side and took our time. It was very good, and a eatery I need to go back to and indulge in some of their other dishes. they show surfing films while you eat. but chatting is allowed........Have a great day..

Very cheap and tasty authentic Mexican food from hole in the wall stand...always busy but worth the wait. Few benches outside to sit but most people take away for the beach or hotels/homes. Lots on the menu to choose from!

This place is perfection. Flavor central. Less beans and cheese, more peppers onions and outstanding salsas that complement the meats of your choice perfectly. Reasonable portions, great service. Could eat here every day!

My wife & I were invited to a birthday dinner celebration at Yolandaâs. We had a nice private room that was attractively decorated, and wasnât stuffy or hot. There was enough room that people werenât crowded together. The wait staff was professional, the service was surprisingly fast for a large (18 people) group, and the food was great. The people got what they ordered, no mixups, and later got their tabs without confusion. We compared our experience with the other diners, and everyone was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was.

The food here is so good. I had the chicken enchiladas, and I can honestly say they were the best I have ever tasted. My son kept laughing because every couple of minutes I would say how great the enchiladas were. My son enjoyed his bean and cheese burrito.

Even though this was listed in the Ventura area magazine as good Mexican food we found the food just average and typical with not much taste. The chips were very hard and tasteless and the salsa okay. The shrimp tacos and my husband's cheese enchiladas were just okay. The Margaritas were not okay as they tasted right out of a bottle and not freshly made. We were disappointed in this restaurant with the service lackadaisical.
