I couldn't tell what to make of the reviews for this restaurant so tried it out myself. It seems like people think it's great or you think it's substandard. I think it's substandard. They're known for their fajitas (supposedly). The plate had some thin strips of steak and the steak tasted decent. The sides came out in individual small plastic cups and gave me the impression of being put together earlier in the day as the toppings didn't appear fresh. So while it's a cheap Mexican restaurant, it's just that: a cheap Mexican restaurant. Given that the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar (mentioned in other reviews), I can't say that that this restaurant meets the definition of an average Mexican restaurant.
We ate here and everything was just absolutely great the salsa was great the chips were great they even had fried pork rinds. We love hot salsa and their salsa was great. The prices were great too we had a fajita burrito which was loaded with meat for $3.
Nice place for breakfast, I liked Potato, Egg & Cheese Burrito its good for light breakfast in the morning...

You probably won't find this place by accident so read this review and make sure you look for it if you're going through Snyder. The food was great and the atmosphere nice. Don't pass this one up.
You won't believe it when you drive up, but this is the best food for miles around. The Ponderosa has TOP quality food and a LOT of it. Luis, the owner/cook/waiter/cashier is a charming individual and makes you feel like you just came over to the house for a friendly meal. He will famously cook anything you want (just try him) but the menu has wonderful options. The enchiladas are phenomenal. They are the best beef enchiladas I have ever had, and I have had many. The pasta is incredible as well. If you want more of American cuisine, the burger is one of the best I have ever had.The only downside is that food is a hair pricier than your typical Mexican cafe, and you need to be prepared to be there a little while as he makes everything from scratch. This is a wonderful trade-off for me. You will get a massive amount of food for your dollar, and you could easily make 2 or 3 meals out of it. The atmosphere is not going to make you think of a 5* place in Los Angeles, but the back room is festive enough. In closing, I am not sure how this place isn't on TA. It is everything you want from a dive restaurant, and has truly top-notch food. You MUST try this place if you are in the area.

This has been in Snyder FOR YEARS! They have never weathered away from their original recipes! My favorites are the Chimichanga & the green beef enchiladas! All ages welcome. They have a kids menu. Also serve beer & sangria wine. It's a good idea to make a reservation in the evening.
