The original Rock Island, from which the city name is derived, is the largest island on the Mississippi River. It is now called Arsenal Island. The population was 39,018 at the 2010 census. Located on the Mississippi River, it is one of the Quad Cities, along with neighboring Moline, East Moline, and the Iowa cities of Davenport and Bettendorf. The Quad Cities has a population of about 380,000. The city is home to Rock Island Arsenal, the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal in the US, which employs 6,000 people.

I agree that you can't strictly call this Mexican food. Perhaps Mexican inspired is a better definition. Either way its cheap and tasty and is one of the foods that I crave when I return to the QC area.Generally speaking this branch of the restaurant is not flash by any means...its been around for years and it looks like it as well. The staff are friendly and helpful and service on orders is usually rather quick.I personally like the food but if you're after the true mexican food experience I would agree with the other reviewers that there is more authentic options available. If however you want some decent "american mexican" food then it fits the purpose.

I had heard they had good tamales so I finally got a chance to try them. Yes, the pork tamales are good. The chips and salsa were good. I ordered the tamale meal which was reasonably priced. It came with refried beans and rice. I was disappointed in the rice but other than that, it wasn't bad. I would recommend and do plan on going back to try the tacos. They looked pretty good.

As I was walking around Rock Island district, waiting for friends to pick me up, I stumbled across this place that serves Mexi-Terranian food and drinks. I had no intentions of eating Mexican food since I'm visiting from El Paso and can get it any time, but I was intrigued. I'm so glad I went in! I had the posole verde and an amazing side salad of fresh Romaine lettuce, pear slices, walnuts and shredded parmesan in a delectable peppery vinaigrette dressing. The posole was the perfect flavor with shredded chicken and crisp sliced radish. The chips included were crisp, appropriately salted and not the least bit greasy. That combo was an easy $7! I paired it with a tasty margarita and had sangria for dessert. I highly recommend this place and wish I knew about it earlier during my trip!

The dining area isn't anything special, but it is a comfortable space. Lots of room. The menu has a good balance between authentic and Tex-Mex. I ordered their Suiza burrito with lengua. The lengua was perfectly cooked and had that hearty beefy flavor that is pot roast like. The burrito was massive and chalked full with lots of goodies. The chips and chunky pico/salsa were awesome. The pico/salsa is fresh and packs some heat from the fresh chilies. Service was fine, nothing special. It isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in the QC, but it is pretty darn good.

I went here initially because I knew it was opened by local business owners and wanted to show support. The food is ordered at the counter cafeteria style and then brought to your table - or there is a drive-thru option. The best description I can think of for the food is that it is similar to a good food truck. Everything is served as individual orders so you basically make your own meal and it is served in baskets. The sauces are very spicy and the food is authentic Mexican.

We were staying in Davenport for a few days and after reading the good reviews for Viva we decided to try it. We walked in and waited 5 minutes for a person to come sit us before we started to look for a waiter/anyone. The bartender was kind enough to find us a waiter. We were seated and told they were transitioning menus so the food was limited, this was fine. We started ordering food. The waiter said since she had been working there no one ordered the steak. Ok? Odd. So we ordered something different. She assured us they still had the ribs. 15 minutes later we had someone come to our table and tell us they were actually out of ribs. I can deal with the transitioning menus but the waiters who have no idea what is going on and have not heard of anything off the menu bothers me. I will never come here again.

this place is incredible, it's a small grocery store, meat market and they run a takeout or eat in restaurant -- the food is AMAZING, everything is made from scratch right there, absolutely unbelievable -- great prices, friendly people -- very insider, in fact, i regret even writing this review

We were looking for a place to have lunch and sit outside to enjoy the beautiful day. The food and service were outstanding. I had taco salad and asked for carnitas instead of beef or chicken. Among the best carnitas ever. My husband had shrimp tostadas - also great. We loved the salsa and ate far too much of it!

Everyone loved their meals! They were busy so it took a little longer than normal to receive our food but it was very good when it got there! I ordered 3 empanadas (Philly cheese, seasoned beef, & cheesy bacon potato) all 3 were excellent! My favorite was the philly cheese and cheesy bacon potato. Other people ordered tacos, quesadilla, and nachos with meat & cheese. We will definitely return here soon!
