Reviews on Mexican food in Quito, Pichincha Province, Ecuador. With a rich pre-Colombian history, Ecuador's capital was founded on the ruins of an Incan city but offers everything a modern traveler might need. It remains the least-altered historic center in Latin America and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quito’s important sites include baroque gems like San Francisco and Santo Domingo monasteries, as well as La Compañía church and college. This huge city sprawls across a breathtaking Andean valley surrounded by volcanic peaks.

The restaurant Los Cuates, vecindad El Bosque is amazing. Great authentic Mexican food in the heart of the North of Quito. We came with my 14-ywar old friends and had delicious food and great cocktails for the adults. Service is excellent too. Escarly, our server was very accommodating to the kids and us. Great attitude. Having read the excellent reviews we were prepared to walk a long way across town to this cafe. We were two vegetarians and two vegans and ended being completely non- pluses by the food. We ordered beers and after fifteen minutes these hadnât arrived so we had to ask the cook for them - the fridge was behind us! The beers were double the price compared to other places weâd eaten in. The food was satisfactory, not big portions by any means and not overly exciting. What is all the fuss about with this place?Dear Rosemary,We´re sorry to hear that you were not as thrilled with our food as many of our guests are. Our beers may be more expensive than what you´ll find in the supermarket, but we find that our $2 price is consistent with the prices of other restaurants here in Quito. We truly apologize for your wait for your beers; we have one cook and one server, and sometimes we have many tasks to juggle at once. Thank you for your patronage and for making the trek to try Llama Love. Sorry to hear you were nonplussed. Sincerely, Llama Love Management

Self-service traditional Mexican taquerÃa! The only one in Quito with the original Mexican flavour and decor!
We were a bit hesitant to stop at a taco shop after just arriving from spending two months in Mexico but we thought we would give it a go.The tacos were delicious! Very flavourful and close to what you would get in Mexico. It is a bit of a strange set up.....you have to order at the counter (and that isn't really evident when you come in). You then pick up your order. The price of the tacos were reasonable but the margaritas were quite expensive however, when looking at tequila at the grocery store, it is very expensive in Ecuador, hence the price of the margaritas. We wanted to go back to sample other types of tacos but unfortunately they are closed on Sunday which was our last day in the city.

My friend had average chicken tacos, his partner had pretty terrible carnitas, and my wife and I had a bland enchilada and chimichanga combo. The guacamole was good though, and the waiter was very friendly and attentive. The prices for Quito were good. Just felt pretty meh afterwards.
