My husband and I arrived in Ozona hungry and ready to eat. Fortunately, weâd already researched The Cafe Next Door and conveniently, the cafe was across the street from out hotel. For starters, we ordered the Salsa & Chips and Fried Pickles. I am an avid lover of both appetizers, and neither let me down. The Fried Pickles were crisp, sour and super tasty with a nice sprinkling of what looked like Tonyâs. The salsa was freshly made and the type that simmers on the stove for hours. The chips were warm and crisp.I got the Texan with Cheese (hamburger with cheese) and it didnât disappoint. The bun was toasted and topped with melted butter, the burger was juicy but not overly so, and I had the pick of fresh toppings to put on my burger (lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles). You get a side dish with all entrees, and while I chose soup of the day (chicken tortilla), the kitchen sent me French fries. My husband asked for my soup as the kitchen got the side wrong, and the server happily brought my cup of soup. It was delicious! (No extra charge for the soup, either.)My husband ordered the Patty Melt with fries. I had a bite and it was ooey-gooey cheesy delicious! Perfectly toasted and cooked with a yummy rye bread that offset the meat and cheese delight tucked into the heart of the sammie. The drink menu doesnât offer too much if you donât drink sodas and iced tea, but it was exactly what you would expect from a small town cafe. In the spirit of small town Texas, we ordered two iced teas, no sugar. I think this surprised the waitress as I am thinking most people are hankering to suck down a sweet tea. I especially am pretty weird, so Iâve been told, because I didnât grow up drinking iced tea.The cafe is clean, has cute decor, and is one of those great places you stumble upon (or research, as we did) when you come through Ozona. Donât miss this little gem as you will certainly be pleased. Good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. Thanks for a lovely little dinner! We definitely will be back. We were eyeing the pies and cakes as we waited for our check, which looked simply marvelous.

We wandered off I-10 in search of a lunch spot, and the shockingly yellow facade of Pepe's in Ozona looked just like that special, out-of-the-way, diamond in the rough we hoped to find. The Tex-Mex/ "Mexican" platters looked great, but they were the same bland/re-heated "steam table" fare you find at far too many bland and tasteless Mexican restaurants across North America.Pepe's also has burger and sandwiches. We noticed more than a few of the regulars were having "other than Tex-Mex", should have been a warning. It's a cool, funky cafe, we wanted to love it, but the food was just not up to par. Adding insult to injury, we waited far too long at the cash register before the watstaff bothered to come take out payment. The place was super0busy, I have to assume there simply isn't anywhere else to dine, I would return for the food!

Bought a to-go meal here on our Big 2015 Road Trip. The menu is a bit tricky - it lists things like "chicken", but what you get is a burrito with the requested item. Food was flavorful and reasonably priced. A good choice for a picnic lunch in the park across the street.

I have Mexican food a lot. This was arguably the worst I've ever had. I would guess that about 10-15% of this food is fresh, if that. The chili con queso was gelatinous goop from a can. Besides the poor quality of food, this restaurants interior decor is SO BRIGHT. Every wall a different color. My husband said "kind of like sitting in direct sunlight", it's that abrasive. Skip, pass, avoid!
