Ottawa Illinois does not have that many good restaurants and has even fewer excellent ones. One of the better restaurants was a Mexican restaurant called Fondita Mexican Grill. It had been operating in Ottawa for several years and the food had simply gotten better and better. However, on our last 3 visits the food has not been fit to eat. Overall my opinion is if they have changed chefs, they need to do whatever they can to get him/her back.

Esther is a small-town, local celebrity. She always wanted her own small restaurant and she finally got it. She is kind, decent, friendly and her food is Mexican home cooking.Everybody from union laborers to the mayor pops in for lunch. It is countertop ordering with a few spots to sit indoors and a few tables outdoors. No table service.The burrito, tacos, tostadas, and any specials are all cooked to order. The ingredients are tasty and fresh but often surprisingly bland. If you like it spicy, just tell Esther.This is primarily a to-go restaurant, in the corner of a building, in a parking lot. Nothing fancy, just good wholesome Mexican food and the realization of Esther's dream.

"Best of two world's" here, with all that Taco Bell offers, along with the goodness of Kentucky Fried Chicken !! I got my favorite, Chicken Pot Pie, but usually I like the Mexican Pizza from the "other" menu. In a practical way, it's nice to have the franchises @ this location, to get more choices. This one is well run, when I've patronized it.
