We have visited this place many times and actually used to prefer it over many others in the area. However, yesterday we went in (family of four) and we all had some sort of shrimp dish. The shrimp looked old and dried out and very small. I tasted a few and worried I would get sick so I stopped. My husband felt the same and commented that it was the worst meal heâs had at a Mexican restaurant. The chips, guacamole, and cheese dip were fine. Our service was slow for drink refills but the poor guy looked like he was extremely busy. My husband got the shrimp diablo and the sauce was not even warm. Iâm not sure if it was frozen and then thawed out or what. I tasted it and it was horrible.

When I first moved to MS about a year ago, I was quite disappointed in most of the Mexican restaurants in the greater Jackson area. However, I am quite glad I found this place. Great food and great variety. Prices are good, too. Only thing that could have been better is the pace of the service.

In the mood for Mexican so we found El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant. We entered and could see that they were busy but the bar was empty. So we sat at the bar. We find out that the bartender is really a waiter that has 1/3 of the restaurant. Two other servers were on as well. In between running back an forth we got our drink orders in. The Coors light draft was just changed out and it was warm so he offered my wife a bottle of Mich Ultrat. Come to find out though he did not adjust the price down. The chips and salsa were good. The wait staff were running around with their heads cut off. Just a crazy show. Also the restaurant had a smokey haze throughout. After leaving and getting back to the hotel, I could smell every meal on my cloths. Tables not getting bussed and the ticket machine was running over. Had to go get our menus so we could order. We ordered food and it was okay. Had to get up and go get our silverware and napkins from the wait station. My wife really liked the shrimp tacos. I had a chicken quesadilla which could have been cooked a while longer on the grill. No one really bothered us and at checkout no one asked how we enjoyed our meal.

With so many plain 'ole mexican restaurants within the tri-county area, Papitos adds a better choice by including fresh guacamole and other ingredients. For starters, I prefer the queso dip and chips. The chips are prepared fresh daily. The beef or chicken fajitas are an excellent and quick choice for lunch. They also put a new spin on quesadillas allowing you to choose your ingredients and toppings

Recently opened Mexican restaurant in place of a poorly rated one. Inside redone and certainly modernized. Most important, we really had an outstanding meal and experience. Started off with Mexican draft beer, horchata cocktail, and their chorizo queso and I think it was an absolutely perfect start to great Tex mex. family of 4 all very happy with available menu choices and each had a great meal. Really enjoyed the taco choices and man were they outstanding. Big high 5 to management and all in the kitchen and front staff. Will be back for sure!

This is a good example that all 'Mexican' restaurants are not the same. Their food tastes so fresh. We have been several times and like to try something different each time. They even have nopalas and their plantains are great. If you want spicy, but not too hot, with lots of flavor, get there soon!

Very nice restaurant with great Mexican food. Service was great and the staff friendly. Prices were very reasonable.....recommend, wont be disappointed.
