The community was incorporated in 1890 and named in honor of Stephen Benton Elkins (1841–1911), a U.S. Senator from West Virginia. The population was 7,094 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Randolph County. Elkins is home to Davis and Elkins College and to the Mountain State Forest Festival, held in early October every year.

We we're staying in Elkins on our way through WV. Saw the reviews and since it was less than a mile away decided to try it out. Very friendly service, quick and good food.

we went on their first day open and it was great!!!!! restaurant was redone well with a clean nice modern Mexican restaurant. good salsa and guacamole. everything was fresh. we had pork and beef fajita's and burrito's and all were great. descent portions and everything looked and tasted great!!!! we will be back.
