Things to do in Duncan
Having moved from San Jose CA last year, we have been on the search for simple and real Mexican food. We found it. La Estrella is a very unassuming place in Greer. Matter of fact, the first time I came upon it, I was suspect of what could be inside. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you have entered a restaurant/cafe in Mexico. The food is simple....tacos, tamales, etc. There is what I would call a salsa bar with everything you need to put on top of your food and it is super fresh. There is an entire wall of refrigeration cases of sodas and other drinks. They sell Mexican breads and have an entire wall of what must looks to be yummy breads, cookies, treats. The place is bare bones on décor although the last time we were in we saw they added a TV with music videos on it. We also noticed the menu on the wall was updatedâ¦perhaps new owners or just a few upgrades. This is not a fancy place by any stretch, but the simple good food reminds me of what we used to get back home. My husband thinks the tamales are fabulous. The tacos come on a corn tortilla and whatever meat you picked, nothing more. We have had the quesadillas which are a good size and very good. We have never had the burritos but plan on trying those next time. You can't go wrong with this place.....who knew that Greer had real Mexican food?

The food is generic so it doesn't take much to prepare. The problem here is customer service. Multiple team members experienced the same problem. Told to pull forward, waited 7 minutes, no response; had to go inside to ask about food. Others in there complaining too. Took way too long for fast food. The workers didn't seem to really care!
Excellent lunch with very fresh product and very tasty. I will recommend to anyone that like good Mexican food and are price conscious, big portions great value for your money. I will be back.

We found this typical of most Mexican Restaurants we have visited. Tacos were large, very fresh shells and the shredded cheese they used was great. Good service, good food, good price. Seems like the area to the right is for families or larger groups. We sat there and it was very noisy and distracting. GO LEFT. Also, they have a very annoying "beeping" sound every time the door opens. SIT IN THE BACK, AWAY FROM THE DOOR.
We stopped in for dinner and really enjoyed everything. We started with queso, it was a bit runny but good and the chips and salsa were very good. Pretty good beer selection in bottles. We ordered tamales and a burrito both were very good. Service was fine. We will be back

My grandson had a birthday and this is where he chose to have his celebration dinner. Good margaritas, good variety of Tex-Mex food. A casual, moderately priced dining experience with friendly staff and lots of families enjoying dinner out. My grandson actually had leftovers to take home and that is most unusual as I always say it's as if he has two hollow legs to fill. My steak fajitas were piping hot and the meat was tender. My grandson chose a specialty meal that had steak, shrimp, chicken and a pork chop with a mole sauce. It also included a piece of cactus. He thought it tasted sweet; I thought it was sour, but definitely not my thing. The mole was very good; multiple layers of flavor and not just chocolate. I opted to stop at one fajita so that I could enjoy dessert. My very favorite treat in any Mexican restaurant is flan and theirs did not disappoint; my grandson chose churros and he said they were really good. There are other options such as fried ice cream and an apple chimichanga, etc. We will back.

You wrote a review for El Primo 4 minutes ago4.0 star rating 12/19/2018We stopped in for a family dinner and received immediate attention in terms of water, menus, chips and salsa. The drink menu is somewhat limited in terms of varietal selection, its heaviest on beer and margaritas but almost non existent for wine and whiskey selections. The dining room is very spacious and can get noisy when they are quite busy. The tables are situated to provide seating for small and large groups, the staff are very attentive to your needs in terms of chips and salsa refills but at times lacking when it comes to drink refills and verifying food quality. The fajitas are excellent, the vegetable and meat combination is spiced and cooked very well, they do provide rice, beans, cheese, etc. to accompany. I would say the price point for this establishment is spot on.

Stopped here on a recent Sunday on the way back to Atlanta. What a pleasant surprise. The food came to the table very hot. My chimichanga plate was full of flavor. My wife really enjoyed her enchiladas. I wish this little gem was much closer to home.
