El Charro

Based on the reviews, decided to give this place a try while down in Cotulla area. First off, very slow service and the place was not busy for dinner. The food was not quality Tex-Mex. The beef tacos had a strange flavor and a bit greasy. The chalupa I had was the highlight. My wife indicated the cheese enchiladas were average and her carna guisada was not good. I would pass on this place.

El Vaquero Cafe

I saw this little out of the way café located just off of I 35 and decided to give it a try. There was a sign in the window that said "steak night" 10 ounce rib eye salad and baked potato, at least that's what I got for my sides. The salad was a great, super fresh dinner salad with all the things you'd put on at a salad bar. When the steak came out is was a thinner that I normally prefer but let me tell you something. It was one of the better steaks that I've had in year. In fact I asked the waitress about the cook and she said it her uncle and offered to go get him. I objected but she insisted and said he likes to talk to customers. He was a very friendly person and told us he hand cut his steak himself and seasoned as he cut them every morning and vacuum sealed them. I'm not sure what he seasons with but he has it down perfect. If you put any steak sauce on this steak you'll ruin it. I will be back to have a few cold ones and another rib eye steak. Mesquite grilled right over the hot coals. PERFECT! And just so you all know, our waitress was as good as they come!

Another fast food Mexican type restaurant. The food is good, but a little too pricey for what you get. Usually clean, but can be messy if they are busy. Thanks for your feedback. Our authentic Mexican food is prepared with fresh products of the highest quality. We are happy to offer a variety of unlimited extras at our complimentary salsa bar- including tortilla chips. Your comments are very valuable to us, and we will be keeping up the hard work to make sure that our dining area is to your complete satisfaction. Thanks for the five stars!

Ok, so you have to get used to older, not super clean, nor aesthetically pleasing dining establishments in these little Texas towns! However! The brisket taco on homemade flour tortillas is exceptional! Just the best I have had! The guacamole was very good. The refried beans were meh, so don’t bother. The chips and salsa were just ok. And on to their specialty fries!! There is nothing like these batter dipped fries! They are delicious! They are served with a nice dipping sauce! Absolutely try them! And “Mary Lou” was wonder-woman waitstaff, single handedly managing a large birthday party of 20, and three other tables! She was amazing!
