Had a two-night stay in Chowchilla and dined at Mario's on both evenings. The staff is super-friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. The salsa that is given to you with tortilla chips upon arrival is out-of-this-world. The main course was simple but tasty enough. A decent eatery in a town full of....er...not a great deal, to be honest. Would eat here again. Not that I have a burning desire to return to Chowchilla.

This truly was "homemade, delicious Mexican food" served by helpful and attentive staff . Very local, modest restaurant reflected the owners concern for quality, service, and setting. The beans were silky and delicious . We only had the Mexican dishes which were excellent and modestly priced.
We opted to try this place as Taco Bell is just getting old. Wow...we are so glad we did. The Taco's and burrito's are amazing and quite filling. While visiting the area, we ate there several times and were not disappointed. Much better than Taco Bell and right off of Hwy 99 and Robertson Ave.
Got hungry driving between L.A. and the Gold Country along Route 99. It was Sunday, around noon, and we were near Chowchilla. Great area for Mexican food because so much of the population is Hispanic. We were not disappointed with Conchita's. There are a few tables inside, very clean, with a walk-up window to order. I tried their breakfast burrito, which they eagerly made with whatever ingredients I chose. There is also a bakery attached, but we didn't try any sweets. My burrito was very flavorful and substantial (they give you a choice of sizes). When I asked for decaf coffee, they brewed a pot for me. There were lots of wonderful choices on the menu. When we arrived (around noon), we were the only ones there. By the time we left, the place was packed with families. Part of this is surely the food (very reasonably priced, also). The other part is that hardly anything in Chowchilla is open on Sunday.
