Reviews on Mexican food in Bay of Plenty Region, North Island, New Zealand. The Bay of Plenty (Māori: Te Moana-a-Toi) is a large bight in the northern coast of New Zealand's North Island. It stretches from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east, a wide stretch of some 259 km of open coastline. The Bay of Plenty Region is situated around this body of water, also incorporating several large islands in the bay. The bay was named by James Cook after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to the earlier observations he had made in Poverty Bay.

Sabroso offers a broad taste of Latin America, serving everything from tasty tapas to homestyle Mexican specialities and traditional South American dishes. The beverage menu features our signature margaritas along with affordable South American wines. In
My husband lived in Mexico for a year and is obsessed with Mexican food. He is also very picky so Mexican restaurants are a risk because he is easily disappointed. We were not at all disappointed with Sabroso. It was truly delightful and delicous. We ordered calamari, mini tortillas (I think these were deep fried) and beef cheeks. Also ordered the Pina Colada dessert which as SO delicious and refreshing I could have eaten it for dinner. The service was attentive, fast and friendly. This restaurant has stood the test of time and I can see why. The food really is very very good. We will definitely make it back there. Make sure you book ahead of time because the restaurant itself is very small so you need to secure a table.

Abracadabra cafe and bar "Good food, good vibes" a funky 1940s house with unique character and atmosphere. Come in and meet us for exceptional kiwi service with a smile.
Abracadabra is a good place to stop for any meal. Good choice of seating available. Whether it be on deck over looking street, inside or out the back. All good. And reasonable spacing between setting, not all crammed up like some places.Good food choices at reasonable pricing. Love the almond and orange star cake! Staff friendly and welcoming.

It wasnât a busy time so the restaurant wasnât crowded but it was still noisy. The waitress couldnât understand my husband at all and she must have misheard the drink order though that was quickly rectified. All three of us were native English speakers so it was not a language problem. However, having got over that hurdle the food and drink were excellent. Both had the enchilada, the mole sauce was great as were the table sauces. Would have liked a dessert but were too full.Hi Janet! Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your food and beverage!Being a smaller refined Restaurant unfortunately at times it can seem a bit noisy as voices can bounce across the room. We hope to see you again soon. The Barrio Team
