Our most recent visit (having been there a few times since it opened) was disappointing. While our meal selections were delicious and well prepared with good service, the alleged dinner entertainment ruined an otherwise pleasant evening. First, as a trained vocalist and instrumentalist, the sound system here is too overpowering for the size of the restaurant. Secondly, the karaoke vocalist was absolutely tone deaf. Her off-key renditions actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I was tempted to actually discuss her performance with her, but polite society frowns on this. Oh well, let's hope the owners aren't her relatives?

I'm from CA and sometimes it's difficult to find authentic Mexican food in NJ. This place is great. The salsa Verde is homemade and amazing and so are the homemade tortilla chips. We had the steak nachos, our friends had tacos and it was one of the best meals I've had out in awhile.

Forget about chain Mexican establishments and do your taste buds a favor when you find yourself in Southern Ocean County NJ. Located on the "old" (East Bay Avenue) highway parallel to Route 72 and situated in an unassuming former breakfast and lunch building, you will be pleased with both the cuisine and service available there. The owner / chef is talented and introduces you real cuisine as enjoyed by our neighbors on the southern border. The tastes and texture flair is simply amazing!

El Tenampa is my favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. I base all of my Mexican food dining experiences off of this restaurant and my many experiences dining there.Truly authentically prepared Mexican food in a comfortable, Mexican themed atmosphere with Latin music playing overhead. Tenampa is BYOB or enjoy the Mexican sodas or usual drink menu items. Whether on a romantic date or a family gathering, the perfect place to go for great food at great prices and friendly, attentive service. Bottomless tortilla chips and fresh made salsa add to the remarkable dining experience. El Tenampa will not disappoint. A brief trip to Mexico, no passport required.

My wife and I stopped to try a well recommended Mexican themed restaurant while out on a shopping trip. The host seated us quickly and introduced himself as one of the owners. He answered all our questions with a friendly response and served us water immediately. We enjoy bantering with who ever seats us but having an owner involved allowed us even more insight into the background of the ownership. But now the most important information from us. The food was outstanding and reasonable. My shrimp burrito was full of large shrimp and black beans and rice. Excellent. My wifeâs spicy chicken burrito was amazing according to her. Our entrees were accompanied by toasted plantain chips with a dipping sauce. This establishment is close to us and will be one of our regular stops.
