Our 3rd visit in as many years; this time one could make small criticisms but to do so would be mean -spirited. Even suboptimal, the Tuscan Kitchen remains the outstanding restaurant in Rye. My pasta was perhaps a fraction over-cooked,,,but the sauce and shellfish were lovely. The puds were especially good this time and the service from an incredibly helpful waiter couldnt be bettered. In no other restaurant has extra bread been brought without having to request it,

Having spent a wonderful weekend in Rye we dropped into Layla for a quick lunch before making our way home. What a pity we chose this restaurant! Starters: We ordered halloumi and thatâs what we got, there was no suggestion of garnish on the plate! We also ordered Moussaka, this tiny portion had been heated in the microwave so that the outside was molten yet the middle was cold. I wanted the King Prawn starter as my main. What should have been a sizzling dish of juicy fat prawns in a spiced butter was actually four small flaccid prawns from a packet swimming in a tepid buttery liquid - absolutely awful. Twice we asked the waitress for tap water and eventually one glass arrived - there must be a ration on the free stuff. This kind of cynical, âburn the touristâ catering shows the worst of tourist areas and massively lets the side down - shame on you Layla management !

Got to the restaurant at 7.45 ( advertises being open until 10pm. Was told that the chef had gone and could not supply many of the dishes on the menu. Ended up with a really dry half a chicken & salad. Coffee machine had been turned off so none was available and the Bulmers pear cider tasted a bit odd. Will be avoiding in future.
