Cafe Aylanto

The first impression is great..... one has to walk through the outdoor seating area with a lush green tropical looking ambiance.... something that you don't get to see very often in Islamabad. The interior is very well furnished too with a mix of modern and traditional decor. They offer a good variety of Italian, American and continental dishes on the menu. Standard of cooking is quite good and the presentation is impressive. We ordered their mix seafood and beaf / mutton platters and found them very well prepared. They had perhaps the best calamari that I have eaten in Islamabad. Prawn were also done very well They need to improve the quality of services which are ok but do not go at par with the other facilities / food being offered in the restaurant. The staff needs to be better trained for serving in a fine dining restaurant. Prices are steep and it will cost you around 1500 to 2500 per person. This is one aspect that will put a restraint on the customers and Aylanto will remain a restaurant that will perhaps be visited on special occasions only and not in routine.

This was our second time in the restaurant as few friends told us that things are much better now. The food was good but still lacking the Lebanese taste. They cook something in between a Pakistani and Lebanese taste. Service is good. The ambiance is nice though a long alley kind of sitting arrangement does at times give a feeling of being "enclosed". As for the value for money, they are a bit on expensive side and in the same area, one can eat better in same money. It will cost you 1300 to 2000 per head including drinks, depending on the order.

Everything except the food was okay because the food was cooked in pure pakistani style and moulded to suit the palette of paki dishes. it was like eating at a paki BBQ/Karahi joint. Ambiance was awesome as we sat outside and the weather made it a great experience. Staff was very courteous and helpful. they were brilliant. Food is another story. All things considered the taste was not ... real or close to what i have experienced at most Lebanese restaurants. we ordered hummus with laham/meat and it did not exactly taste as it should have. the meat wasn't mince and cut up in huge slices and without pine nuts. the hummus had a little too many spices in it. we ordered soup as well and it tasted better than anything as it was plain broth from chicken stock. the soup was tasty except for two small shrimp dumplings. And lastly it was a helping of kabab halabi. the garlic sauce and chili sauce it came with was great but not the Kababs or the Halabi part of these kababs cuz the tomato sauce was way over cooked and way too spicy. It felt like we are eating KARAHI KABAB. The welcome drink of lime 7 up was a nice touch but it was flat so they staff did replace it for us which is a good for a place in pakistan. And they didnt even let us order a burger from the neighboring burger joint which i think was a bit odd as we were sitting out in the open these things shouldnt matter at all.
