Chef Raffaele went all the way! He made us feel special. A four course dinner with delicate dishes and duck liver, not too much, nor too little and all the tastes matched subtly and perfectly. Our table companions, who are seasoned travellers, were equally impressed. A Pinot Grigio and a Barolo completed this top dining experience. The price is mid-range, but the value is fine dining.

We ventured here late Sunday afternoon for a sundowner and sat at a small table on the terrace out front. Had two drinks each and I was rather surprised at the bill - slugged Euro 5.00 for a 300ml glass of Texels (typically about Euro 3.50 to max 4.00) and then almost Euro 3.00 for a 200ml or 250ml glass of very ordinary local pilsener (I didn't know they served glasses that small in NL). I finally saw red when I was short-changed Euro 2.00 which, when I quietly pointed it out, was rectified by the staff member with an apology - maybe an honest mistake. The bearded owner (or manager) was not interested in the slightest, apart from wanting us to move on, presumably in case his dining customers overheard). Being ripped-off for drinks as a foreign tourist in NL is a first for us in over 20 weeks travels here in the last 2 years.

Het Broeker Huis is one of the most beautiful buildings in the extremely pittoresque village Broek in Waterland, at 10 minutes from Amsterdam. A very nice restaurant with fine cuisine, a lovely courtyard-terrace and many authentic details. You can have lu
What a suprise! A short drive from the north of Amsterdam (15 minutes) and you arrive in the beautiful village "Broek in Waterland". The restaurant is located at a beautiful location just behind the church. We had a delicious dinner. The menu, 5 courses, was very cooked and presented nicely on the plates. Staff are doing their best to provide you everything you need for a lovely evening. The restuarant is located in an old villa and the dining room of this villa is also gourgeous. Their is a terrace so when the weather is nice, you can have your dinner outside. Highly recommended!

The ambiance is lovely and the view is very nice but the service is shocking. Not for the first time, I sat for 20 minutes waiting for some service (it wasn't even that busy). Gave up in the end and left. Don't come if you actually want to order anything. Actually, better still, turn up with a hip flask and your own sarnies. You can enjoy the view, etc, and you won't be bothered as they probably won't notice you are even there.

Both this and the bar next door Gevangenpoort, are run by the same people and both are excellent . Lovely location by the canal and the old prison gates, they have an interesting menu as well as very good pizza and we had a lobvely sea bream risotto and some decent rose wine. You can walk through from the restaurant to the bar next door or sit outside in the sun in the little courtyard which joins the two. The staff are lovely and the bar has a charming old feel to it. Visited several times when we were in Edam.
